I don't think it's a center problem at all. I think it's more of a power forward problem and a coaching problem.
Rose does not know how to run an inside offense. It's his biggest weakness. As mentioned last week, it doesn't take a 7 foot beast of a center to have an inside presence. It takes game planning. There are NO back doors, NO give and goes with a forward, NO down low screens and NO rolls to the basket. BYU NEVER runs these plays. The few times that there is a dish down low it's usually from Jimmer driving and handing it off. 7 out of 10 times, Jimmer usually tries to force those shots, so I don't blame the recipient of the dish not being particularly ready for it. We got spoiled a bit with Araujo and Trent (more so with Araujo), but centers like them are few and far between.
All it takes is Miles getting the ball down low, backing in a couple of steps and when the help on defense comes Noah, JT, or even Jimmer for that matter cutting to the basket. Never seen it done, but SDSU did it to us as did UNM, and you can bet whoever we play in the NCAA tourney is going to do that to us all day long. It has nothing to do with Miles as a player. It has to do with Rose as coach, so point the finger higher up the ladder.
On defense, Miles is quite good. He's a bear to get around by other teams' big men. Davies needs to watch his knees a bit. He likes to stick them out there as players try to dribble around him, but when you're 6'10" a giant knee is a little hard to miss by the ref.
