Childs' NBA Chances

I'm not sure I see him getting drafted. What say yea?



Obviously, I'd like him to stick around. The fact Mika is barely making it in Europe and Bryant is playing in Israel (lower league than Euro) hopefully had Childs thinking twice about declaring.

It would help if he could improve his 3 pt shooting.

He's not nearly quick enough or physical enough to play in the NBA. He has no chance of being drafted. Oh, by the way, this thread is in the wrong forum.

I think he could make a really good tight end in the NFL.

I honestly have a hard time seeing him make it in the lower European leagues.

BYU doesn't even recruit guys who have NBA ability and when they do, they go to Duke. BYU players who could possibly develop NBA capability don't work hard enough to do it. Jimmer was the only player who did in the last 10 years. Childs has NBA athletic ability but not enough to make it without a deadly outside shot. His outside shot isn't nearly accurate enough. No one is going to draft him into the NFL.

I think that Mika and Childs although having different skill sets, have about the same skill level.

Kyle Collinsworth had the work ethic, but not quite the physical gifts necessary. I don't know that BYU has ever had a guy who worked as hard as he did/does.

I don't think he has an aggressive enough mindset to make it in the NBA.

Breaking down Childs.



Too small to play NBA center. Hasn't shown the quickness to guard modern NBA 4's. Body is soft and pudgy. Maybe he could improve his quickness by losing some weight.



Has shown some ability to shoot the 3 and can post up smaller or like-sized players.



Struggles to pass out of double teams.



Struggles to make defensive rotations, is this bad coaching or a lack of effort?



He has an outside shot of being drafted in the late second. Someone might take a chance on his consistent production. It is more likely he will be playing somewhere in Europe.



If he got into better shape and shot the ball better there would be a place for him in the league as a backup 4.

0-5% chance in my opinion.

Please come back for another year! Although I wouldn't hold it against him if he wants to make a couple hundred thousand playing professionally somewhere.
