Rivals' highest-rated quarterback (No. 63 overall) is Jake Heaps, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound drop-back passer from suburban Seattle who has already enrolled at BYU. With the departure of three-year Cougars star Max Hall, Heaps, a consistent and accurate passer, will be one of four thus-far untested quarterbacks competing for BYU's starting job this spring.



"Heaps is probably the most ready to play in college," said Newberg, "but he needs to get bigger."

these are the same geniuses,or related to the same geniuses who told us that AC was not front- line NFL material,that Pitta is too slow,Max is too short,that their uniforms are too BYU.....could it just be that they're downgrading Heaps just a little bit because if he was really that great then why is he going to BYU?do ya think? :skeptic:

Probably splitting hairs, but I don't know that you can rightfully categorize Riley Nelson as "untested" since he started several games for USU. The other three have never played in a college game, but Riley just hasn't been the starter at BYU, but has started at this level of competition and further, he has a year under his belt practicing the BYU offense.

Really, you can tell that!? Really? You can tell how good a HS QB is going to be in five years? Really? You don't think that maybe, just maybe, if you could reliably predict whether a QB will plateau at the next level that you might be worth 7-figures to a NFL organization. But Parcells and Holmgren haven't come calling because you can't tell how good a quarterback is going to be in 6 months let alone five years. Heck, I don't even think you can tell how good a QB is RIGHT NOW.

I hope five years from now Jake is the same. He lost what? only three games in high school, won three state championships had a TD:INT ratio off the charts. I'll be okay with that kind of production from him!

I read this thread as saying "Heaps on CSI" and I thought, wow, dude is out solving crimes. Is there anything he doesn't do?

Funny how they crack on heaps size, and he is just one inch shorter than matt Barkley at USC. He is also 1-inch shorter than the Scroggins kid going toe USC and weighs 10lbs more. Seriously, he is 18. you think he can;t add 20 lbs i nteh next 4 years? Some scouts are serious idiots. Too caught up in numbers and hype, not enough about whether a kid can actually play. Heaps can play, is not a project and will be a better QB than Pryor at tOSU ever hopes to be. Those scouts really are stupid at this level.

Saw a great point either on TBS and/or Cougarboard. These "scouting experts" like those at CNN and ESPN are trying to project these guys as NFLers. Well guess what? Heaps doesn't have "prototypical" NFL QB size. But last I checked he wasn't heading to the NFL this year. Or even next year. He should be evaluated with how he projects at where he's going to be. And he should be projecting as being poised to be highly successful at BYU.
