BYU:



Commits: 29 | ESPNU 150: 0



The Cougars have been making their presence felt both on and off the field, since Bronco Mendenhall's arrival in Provo. Defensively, four-star DE Bronson Kaufusi (Salt Lake City, Utah/Timpview) gives BYU a tall (6-8, 240 pounds), rangy edge defender or tight end. Zac Stout (Westlake, Calif./Oaks Christian) is a productive, versatile linebacker who can run, hit and make plays sideline to sideline. Offensively, polished QB Jake Heaps (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline) is the headline recruit of this top-25 class and fits the Cougars' system extremely well. He does not possess ideal height or measurables for the position, but has been well-tutored on fundamentals and mechanics. Four-star WR Ross Apo (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) is a tall, physical target.



Utah:

The Utes have established themselves as one of the top non-BCS programs in the country and they followed up their undefeated 2009 season with a 10-win effort this year. Despite the success on the field, Utah is not blazing up the recruiting trail and at this point again have a moderately-sized prep class. While Kyle Whittingham's class may not have any prospects that jump off the page to fans, it does consist of some good talent led by two top 40 quarterback prospects. Tyler Shreve (Redlands, Calif. / East Valley) the No. 23 rated signal caller is a prospect with ideal measurables, good arm strength and enough athleticism to fit in Utah's system. Brian Blechen (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark) is a kid with impressive physical tools and upside and actually reminds us some of former Utah quarterback Alex Smith. The class also has some talent beyond the two good quarterback pickups, like three-star safety Damian Payne (Houston, Texas / Klein Forest). Some targets for the quarterbacks are also on board as a pair of wide receivers out of California are committed in Dres Anderson (Riverside, Calif. / John W. North) and Kenneth Scott (Fontana, Calif. / Colony). Three-star defensive end Joe Kruger (Orem, Utah / Timpanogos) is the younger brother of current Ute Dave Kruger, also a defensive lineman.





I am tired of the jake does not have ideal body.....crap crap crap....but he is polished talk. would he be the number one recruit in both rivals and scout for quarterbacks if this crap were true? I how he has to write way more for utah trying to make them look good when its obvious their bcs bowls aren't doing it for em on the recruiting field.

So apparently the cutoff for being too short is 6'2" but only if you're white, because is you're black then you clearly have the athleticism working in your favor.

This is the weakest quarterback class in years. Nevertheless, ESPN still has 6 QBs ranked ahead of Heaps, likely because he spurned the ESPN recruit camp.

Exactly. ESPN scouts--at the high school level--are full of crap. At the NFL Draft level, they still show bias, but are closer to accurate because NFL scouts and GM sets them straight. HS recruiting is a crap shoot. Size and athleticism do not guarantee you make it.

What I don't get is why these "Scouts" are even attempting to project these players to the NFL before they even get through high school. Shouldn't they only be concerned with how they are going to do at the next level before they jump to any conclusions regarding their professional abilities? And they don't even get those right the majority of the time so what makes them think they are any good at evaluating HS talent all the way to the NFL when they still have 3+ years to grow and progress before they even are eligible to make that jump?
