Jase Butorac chooses a I-AA

"Jase Butorac, a 6-foot-3.5, 280-pound offensive lineman from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., verbally committed Monday to the [Eastern Washington] Eagles, and he let us know that his teammate, 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman Evan Day, will be joining him in Cheney, Wash. for college.



It was an interesting recruiting process for Butorac, Monday named to the No. 14 spot on Scout.com's final top-25 for the state of Washington. He was the highest-ranked uncommitted player for about 12 hours. "BYU, they filled up too quickly for me," he said. "They got a center and they told me they filled up. That was my fault I guess. And Air Force, they were talking to me, but I wasn't into the military aspect of it. It wasn't what I was feeling.""

I do like the fact that he turned down FBS offers to go FCS....where he can later transfer to BYU without having to sit out a year.

I thought it was a one way rule. If a kid transfers from FCS to FBS, I thought he still has to sit out a year. Interesting.

I was just thinking that Utah and USU hate us, but there's not the same feeling from Weber St or SUU. Maybe we should go poach their upperclassmen after they've had a couple years of experience! ;)

I like what happened here though... he obviously was not coveted for some reason by other schools, which leads me to think he was a D1 tweener as is and this was a courtesy to Jake Heaps to bring in a big kid that could potentially have a chance in the future. (big doesn't mean great; ask Nate Hartung)

BUT it sends a message to BYU recruits (as does the Heimuli schollie) that if you don't get on board and stay on board, that we'll replace you.

He was downgraded to 2 stars. It could be due to the lack of D1 offers.

Funny how he accepted the blame for not getting on board soon enough. Contrast that with the entitled Heimuli who said, "They told me that they ran out of scholarships. They're trying to say that if I wanted to go to BYU then I would have to go on a mission first. I could care less now."



Something tells me Heimuli is never going to go on a mission. There's just something about his attitude that screams out he's another one who wants the mission option (probably just to appease his parents) but won't end up taking it.



Newsflash slick... You've had an offer for a year from BYU but you're the one who couldn't make up your mind. Instead, Phillips and Quezada, two non-LDS and out-of-state players could see that BYU had everything they wanted and decided to jump on the last few scholies. Even Ho Ching and Hanneman, both decided to accept a 'backordered scholie' just to play at BYU. Maybe you didn't follow the recruiting trail last year when BYU got burned by all those who wanted to wait around for the 'glory' of announcing on signing day. But if you think they were going to make that mistake again, I'll be surprised to see you qualify academically wherever you end up committing. And maybe, just maybe, if you had shown any sign of interest, BYU would have held out longer for you. But as it was, you never thought taking an official visit was important, you never included BYU in your lists of desired destinations and you rarely even responded to TBS article requests. Yet you think a team who has seen more success (both consistent and in 2009) than any of your other current standing offers owes you something?



Oh and also, if you're trying to disrespect BYU, saying you "could care less" doesn't quite do it. If you "could..." then do. I COULDN"T CARE LESS on the other hand that you won't be coming to BYU. You articulated what I was thinking. Bronco has built a pretty fair program by bringing in kids who want to be here and feel it a privilage to play at BYU. Ego is part of becoming good at something, but overinflated ego and self importance often translate to poor team unity, and lower team productivity. Sometimes the most talented reciever in the NFL goes from team to team putting up great personal numbers, but causing so much contention that most of the teams don't do all that well with him on the team.



It would have been nice to have Heimulie's talent, but it is pretty clear that he didn't ever really want to be here, and that he feels like he is better than the knaves who did. BYU will be just fine without him, and I suppose that he will do more for the success of a program that he wants to be a part of than he would ultimately do for one that he didn't care about. We have a pretty good recruiting class coming anyway, and I don't expect to see a lot of drop-off in next year's class. The future looks great for the cougs. 8) 8)

This sends a message, but at the same time I'm not sure a lot of high school juniors/seniors understand completely the whole recruiting process and how it has dynamically changed over the last few years.



I had wonder what had happened with him as we had heard he had an offer, but I had never heard that it had been pulled. I hope him good luck.
