Gonzaga backed out of a 1-1-1 deal with us

Where did you hear that? I would have loved that setup, but have to agree the Bulldogs are overrated and afraid to prove it.

Coach Rose actually talked about this in his post game interview after the SDSU game with Wrubell,and Greg pointed out that Mark Few was dodging us.[not in exactly those words,but paraphrased].

Bummer, I was looking forward to the match up. I remember hearing something about it a while ago. I'd love to play Gonzaga or St. Mary's.

Does anyone have a link on it. this is the first I've heard of a potential Gonzaga deal - even if it's not happening.

Must be more to the reasoning behind this. Not that I've memorized Gonzaga's schedules over the last few years, but it seems to me they've not been afraid to play a tough OOC schedule in the past.

You're right, Gonzaga has played some very tough schools (and beaten them back in the Adam Morrison days) BUT... they were name schools and there's probably no shame in losing to Michigan State, while losing to BYU probably doesn't have the same ring to it.



I'll bet $10,000 that if Jimmer announces that he's staying for next season, that we'll be invited to the Maui classic or another big pre-conf season tourney next year. The nice thing about college basketball is that the schedules are usually more dynamic and fluid than football.



I think he will stay, as the perception by NBA scouts will be that he won't be able to defend at the highest level and would be a huge liability as anything but a spot scorer. I'm not sure that's true, but the more he becomes a household name in college hoops, the more someone is going to be willing to give him a chance to be a John Stockton, Mark Price type.



I helped recruit the leading scorer in UMKC history, Michael Watson, he was 6'1" lighting fast and could score 30-40 on a given night and he didnt' get any further than a preseason contract with the Celtics after going undrafted.

Jimmer doesn't have the same quicks, but a better basketball mind (and a much better team around him).. however, he is becoming a name in college hoops and that could aid him when he does go pro.

BYU could really really benefit from the attention on Jimmer if he does stay, as that would catapult BYU hoops into consistent territory we haven't seen since the Ainge years.



One of the biggest benefits from this attention right now, is our chances at some better and more competitive holiday or preseason tourneys next year.

Yeah, that thought had occured to me... that Gonzaga is looking at a BYU matchup much the same as one of the BCS schools might. Sucks.

I'm just trying not to think about that right now. Players leaving early is a sore topic for me. I hope stays. I hope he sees the benefit of another season. If he does, we'll have a pretty special team next season too. Miles and JT will be missed for sure, but we'll have the guys to fill in those holes.
