Apo, Others to Miss Spring Camp after Surgery

"Ross Apo, the highly sought-after receiver from Arlington, Texas, won’t participate in spring ball for the Cougars, the school announced today. Apo, who signed with BYU last month and has already enrolled in classes, will undergo surgery this week to treat an injury [?] he suffered in high school.



Also scheduled to miss spring ball is junior offensive lineman Marco Thorson, who has an injured shoulder and has already undergone surgery.



...Senior defensive back Andrew Rich has had surgery for an ankle injury, sophomore defensive back Robbie Buckner has had surgery for a shoulder injury, and sophomore offensive lineman Braden Hansen has had surgery for a thumb injury.



Hansen is listed as probable for spring practices, while Rich and Bucker are questionable. Thorson and Apo are definitely out of spring workouts.



...All of the aforementioned players are expected to participate in fall camp."

Better to handle it now than later. Have them healthy for the Fall. Good.

Could this shoulder injury explain why Buckner rarely saw the field after being the starter before his hamstring injury?

Wonder if Apo redshirts now. If Heaps does, Apo will.

Even though Apo won't participate in spring practice, how much of a benefit will he still have of having graudated early? It seems to me like he could still become familiar with the offense, routes, play calls, personnel, etc, even without running a single route. Anyone with experience have any input on this?

I am just glad he is enrolled in school and here. That is the advantage. He is a Cougar. But I do think he misses out not being able to practice with nelson, Lark and heaps in spring ball. BYU's is a timing based offense. Practice=timing. need it.

This is really too bad. Apo worked hard to graduate early and now he won't be able to reap those benefits. It will make him all the hungrier come fall time. Best of luck to him getting healthy quick.

That's what I was thinking too. He can still go to team meetings, walk all the routes, learn all the audibles, check downs, etc. It should be a good experience for him regardless.

Not only will he get to know his teammates, coaches, and the offense better, he'll get a semester to hit the books and get good grades. Having this extra semester comes in handy if he wants to take a minimal schedule in the fall.
