I have to admit I was on the "Rose recruits too much locally" band-wagon even at the beginning of the season. I wasn't impressed with the Davies signing initially. I have played with Davies before, and was unimpressed with his offense game based upon those experiences. I am 6'5" 235 with a horrendous vertical, and I felt like I could limit him fairly well when defending him in the post. I thought he would get demolished in D-I basketball. I couldn't say anything about him defensively (like I said, horrendous vertical, plus no ball skills---I was always wrestling during basketball season).
So, I was unimpressed by the Davies signing early on. Watching him play this season though, I have realized something--a 6'6" sophomore in high school is much different when he is a 6'10" college freshman.
This is why I avoid voicing my opinion on basketball recruiting.
I think once Rose puts together a couple of seasons with tourney wins, we'll see recruits coming from out of state a bit more as well.
