It was a great feeling. But it was rendered completely irrelevant by what transpired in the final 18 minutes.

I'm not sure Mary Todd Lincoln had a favorite part of "Our American Cousin".

He liked that better than winning at Camp Randall....

My high point was beating Wisconsin on the road. Next up was the o-line dominance and win at AZ to start the season. Next up will be what I predict as a dominating victory in the bowl. The other 'should win' performances a la McNeese St are fun and enjoyable also.



Being up against a rival feels good until you ultimately lose, which in real time took place in about, what 30-45 minutes?



A high point of any game or any season is a lasting, not fleeting feeling of success.

I realize that pointing out any positive thing that BYU does in a loss to Utah just won't go over well with BYU fans, but speaking for myself I felt encouraged after this Utah loss. We did so many things uncharacteristically well in that game.



From 2011-2017, our offense has been on the field with the lead vs. Utah for a total of 3 plays. The fact that we not only led, but dominated for an entire half against Utah is something we haven't seen in a long time.



Utah is a P5 team that will finish with a winning record. Look at what we have recently done vs. P5 teams with a winning record. In the last 5 seasons we have played 13 games vs. P5 teams that have finished with a winning record. We never had the lead in 8 of those games. We were shut out in 2 of them. We have won only one (Wisconsin) and never had more than a 7 point lead in that game. We had the lead in the 4 other games. The largest lead was a 10 point lead against UCLA in 2015 before the Utah game this year.



Utah has won 9 games this year. Since Lavell took over we are 3-36-1 all time vs. P5 teams that won 9 games or more. Our wins came against Miami in '90, Kansas St. in the Cotton Bowl, and ASU in '97. That's the list. In 26 out of those 40 games we couldn't score 20 points so much as get a 20 point lead.



The first half against Utah was the best half BYU has ever played against a 9 win or better P5 (BCS or Major independent) team. I can't fault Holmoe for citing that as the highlight of the season.

So letting a 20 point lead go against your rival is a champion's culture? I guess Holmoe wouldn't know any different.

There is a difference in noticing positives and saying that it was the high point of the season to lose to the utes. BS, I'm not buying his explanation. I am giving Sitake another year, or maybe it would be more appropriate to say that I am being force fed Sitake for another year. Like the last 2 years, I am hoping he figures it out and the team starts playing like they should but I don't hold out much hope that it will happen. Like I said above, moral victories are for losers. There are a few positives about the loss to the utes but it was still a horrible embarrassing loss to lose a 20 point lead in about 15 minutes and lose by 8.

This also wasn't a gaffe in an oral interview. These are Holmoe's typed out responses that he put together and sent out over in an email.
