6 wins isn't close to good enough. If that's what we end up with, I'll be disappointed.

Aren't you the same poster who said that this year BYU should have been 10-2 AT A MINIMUM? With that level of expectation be disappointed already.

That was not I. Maybe KingCoug. I don't follow stuff like that. Bad memory.

Yes, that was me. And, yes, we should have gone 10-2 this year. I'm not saying I would expect 10-2 for next season but certainly better than 6-6.

That's still a schedule that can see BYU start 0-8.

Utah is a loss. On the road to an SEC team could easily be a loss. USC at home could be a loss. Washington at home is a loss. Toledo on the road could be a loss. USF on the road could be a loss. Boise at home could be a loss. Utah St on the road could be a loss.

Lose the first few and things could snowball.

The only games I feel confident about in 2019 are Liberty and Idaho St.

6 wins would be a stretch against that schedule, 7 wins would be the high of my expectations. But I thought 8 wins was the high of the expectations for this season, and there was others who thought this team had the talent to win 10 this year :bug:

We did have the talent to win 10 games this year. We had the wrong offensive game plan against Cal and NIU. We lost a heart-breaker in Boise and made the wrong second-half defensive adjustments against Utah. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but it's not hard to see how BYU could have hit 10 wins.

Next year is an interesting schedule because you can make a case for 9 wins and a case for 9 losses. A ton of toss-up games. A good team will win at least half of the home games and more than half of the road games. An average team could miss out on 6 wins.

I'm not sure if we will be a good team or an average team next year. IMO, our most urgent position needs are at RB and LB. Hopefully guys on the roster can step up to meet those needs.

I don't see it as just possible that BYU starts 0-8, I see it as probable. Can you see Holmoe negotiating with ESPN with that nonsense going on? I seriously don't see why Sitake hasn't been fired already. This is ridiculous.

Now that our bowl game is over, time to look ahead to next season.

BYU has the talent and capability to compete with that schedule. I can guarantee that some of those teams that look formidable will be worse than we think and some of the teams that we currently think will be bad will be better than we think. The problem is coaching. This coaching staff has a bad habit of coaching the team to take halves of football off which causes us losses. Unless they figure something out and quit doing that, I don't see how BYU will get to a bowl game next year with that schedule.

This is an interesting schedule where our toughest games are at home, but not many cupcakes on the road.

I'm thinking we will win 2 out of the BSU, Washington, Utah, and USC games since they are all at home.

I feel really good about beating Liberty and Idaho St. at home.

I think we probably lose to Tennessee.

I think we go 3-2 vs. Utah St., SDSU, USF, Toledo, and Umass.

That comes out to 7-5.

How it should go:

BYU beats: BSU, Utah, USC, Liberty, Idaho State, Tennessee, Utah State, SDSU, Toledo, UMASS

For a great season with 10 wins, but we'll probably end up losing to BSU, Utah, and Tennessee for a flat 7 win season.

Great write-up! What impact do you think playing the Utes first will have? Does it increase our chances of winning or does it not really matter when we play them?
F

Just making sure you know I didn't do the write up--kept bullets I thought most interesting from the BYU release.

Things that don't jump out but I think is great for this year's games are:

- BYU has a bye week on Conference weekend--good because it means they get a week off between trips to Toledo (9/28) and Tampa (10/12).

- BYU has a second bye week on 10/26--which means an extra week of recovery/prep before facing Utah State on 11/2 in Logan.

I'm looking forward to the release of the MWC and AAC schedules to see what USF and Utah State have the week prior to our games with them.

The problem I see with this scenario is that Utah and Tennessee are the first two games of the season. If BYU drops those two, then I don't see how BYU recovers for the season. The next game is a home game against what will be a very talented USC team with a few games under their belt as well. And that is followed by another talented Washington team (although possibly less daunting than they were this year, when weren't even competitive with them).

BYU could easily drop those first four games. Then who knows how the season plays out after that. Does the team have any confidence heading to Toledo and South Florida? Are the Cougars now 0-6? Is an 0-6 team going to want to play Boise? 0-7? Then a road game against Utah State who would just love to not love to see BYU drop to 0-8 but embarrass the Cougars as well.

I'm sure we can right the ship against Liberty and Idaho St, but frankly who cares at that point?

If BYU wants to do ANYTHING in 2019 they simply cannot afford to drop those first two games.
