Grimes' excuses = Detmer's excuses

Last year, the Detmer staff argued that their offense was crippled coming out of the gate with the MLP foot injury the last week of camp, which meant they had to scrap about half of the playbook and re-invent an offense with no time to implement it prior to the season.



Now that Jeff Grimes has taken the reins and is turning in similar results, someone asked why the OLine (and offense in general) look like crap lately, and this is what Dick Harmon reported:

....so MLP gets injured again and the offense goes to crap all over again. We need to wrap MLP in bubble-wrap for next year's offensive coordinator.

Who knew that MLP would be the canary in the coal mine.



Someone should tell Grimes that excuse didn't save the last guy who used it.

Grimes should call up Leach and ask for a copy of the playbook. Go 4 or 5 wide and throw the ball 70 times with.



Quick passing game with 1 or 2 reads in 1 or 2 seconds and throw.

First, it isn't Grimes saying it. Second, the offense is light years ahead of where things were last year with a freshman QB.



I'd rather have excuses for a stupid play call than excuses for a terrible team. There has been a ton of improvement since last year.

There has been a ton of improvement in every area except the offensive line, which strikes me as having taken a step backwards.

True, but Detmer never came out and said it either.



Any coach worried about job security tries to make sure the media knows the excuses without going on the record making excuses.

4 Freshman. Three on the line and one who refuses to throw the ball away. If he knew how to do it we'd have won at least one of the last two games.
