Crazy to look at the record and everyone BYU played is at .500 or better this season and 7 of the 9 are bowl eligible. Only 2 aren't--and BYU faces them in the next 2 games.



Edit: Maybe Hawaii isn't eligible yet without a 7th win when you play 13 games?

I believe that BYU loses to UMass this week. I'm 70% certain of it

Yes, BYU lost a game to BSU that they had an excellent chance of winning--again! But almost nobody on this board thought BYU would be that close. They outplayed expectations by a wide mile. Give them some credit! Sheesh!



Could BYU lose to UMASS? Sure. But I don't see what's so great about UMASS that you all are afraid of. They put up a bunch of points...in triple overtime. With the possible exception of the first quarter against Boise, BYU's defense has been solid each of the last 3 weeks. UMASS has won 4 games. The only one of those 4 opponents that has a winning record is lower division Duquesne. BYU's Wilson is mistake prone but has undeniable talent. The +14 spread for BYU feels about right. Given the chance, I'd love to see the cougars run up the score.

Goodness, they've been living in your head for a year. That game was as much aberration as abomination. And it's exactly why BYU will win.



If Kalani is any kind of coach he'll acknowledge that losing to BSU after being so close sucks, and that the best way to take out that frustration is by getting revenge on a game they shouldn't have lost last year.



This game, more than any other, is about redemption. I expect BYU to come out mad as hell.

Unfortunately, this is a Kalani Shitake coached team. You could have just as easily have written this:

Truthfully it's not anything about UMass that I'm afraid of - it's BYU's offense that I'm afraid of. BYU scored 6 points against Northern Illinois, at home. The team left more points on the field against Boise State than they scored. BYU scores 18 points against CAL..(PS Idaho State scored 23.) Southern Utah scored more points against Arizona than BYU did. This team knows exactly how to make stupid, game-killing errors on offense. And if UMass has shown anything this year, it's that you will need some sort of offense to beat them. Maybe BYU pulls a game out of the hat similar to what it did against Hawaii. But equally (if not MORE) likely is that they won't. I've accepted that this is a lousy coaching staff. Maybe I'm wrong and I'll need to eat crow, but I doubt it.

BYU would only be in serious danger of losing to UMass if the game was in Provo. On the road, this should be a blowout win.



NMSU should be too. Not that we can rely on anything with these coaches. They lose after playing well, and they lose after winning, and I bet they feel like the Boise game was basically a win on all but paper because they had a chance in the end.



Damn I hate these crappy coaches.

UMass has only played 1 team with a defense ranked higher than 49 (Charlotte ranks 12) and played 3 teams with a ranking over 100 (South Florida, Coastal Carolina, UConn). Interestingly that Charlotte team allowed 49 points so the defensive ranking isn't everything here. BYU's defensive ranking is 26. My hope is the defense can slow the 35.1 points per game UMass has been putting up. Their numbers have been up and down scoring over 60 twice (Duquesne, Liberty) but been held to 13 twice (Georgia So., Coastal Carolina). UMass' defense gives up an average of 41.4 points per game holding an opponent under 30 points only 3 times (Duquesne-15, Coastal Carolina-24, UConn-17) and giving up a max of 63 to Florida International.

My biggest concern is whether or not the offense can put up enough points to outpace UMass' offense. UMass' 119th ranked defense is among the worst BYU will see and falls in with #112th ranked Hawaii and #121st ranked New Mexico State. I'm hopeful BYU's offense has a good week this week and next week.

Even a month ago Utah State had all the makings of a good team. They're currently ranked #14. It's depressing to acknowledge that the the Aggies have passed us by the last two years, but I definitely wouldn't have (and didn't) make those kind of comments heading into the game on October 5.



Small consolation, but BYU actually played USU the closest of all of their wins.



USU is not the level of pathetic that UMass has been. I respect the Aggies and how they've turned their program around.



Not that we don't have it in us to lose to the Minutmen; Brigham knows, we do! I just don't see it happening.
