BYU could actually beat Boise State

Ok so I know BYU is likely going to lose. They just are.

However...

The reality is that BYU could win. I don't mean the dumb and dumber sayin-theres-a-chance kind of "could," I mean BYU figuring out what's wrong and getting it right just in time to actually win...on the smurf turf no less.

Here's why, if I were a betting man, I'd bet on BYU this week, if for no other reason than the fact that BYU will make the game closer than everyone expects and likely cover the spread.

But BYU could win if they simply rush for 100 yards. That might sound like a big if without a good running back, but here's what I'm thinking. This is Hadley's last chance to shine. he's actually not a bad runner and he improves with each game. But there is also Burt and Katoa which could turn in decent games if they can at least hold on to the ball.

BYU has gotten beat all year when the opponent is able to stop the run and go man on the receivers. The reality though is that Wilson is actually better than that and if you give him a little time he can make magic. I know Hawaii's defense is garbage, but have you seen who scores what against Boise this year? Their defense isn't exactly an iron curtain. And by the way, last week Air Force, yeah that 3-5 team, put up 38 points on 200 yards rushing and 242 yards passing. Colorado put up 450 yards of offense on them the week before.

BYU has something that those two terrible teams don't have: a good defense. Complain all you like about this season, but BYU's defense is a factor in this game. Nevada played Boise close. I think BYU could do the same. If BYU's defense can hold Boise under 25 points, (not a stretch of the imagination) and if BYU can get enough yards on the ground to allow Wilson some time to find a receiver or two, then BYU could actually win this thing.

Here's hoping the coaching staff can turn in good playcalling on both sides of the ball because I kind of think that's all it would take for BYU to pull off a 27-24 win.

Mmm, Boise State is a 13 1/2 point favorite. The way we've been playing and the fact it's on the Smurf Turf, I can easily see the Broncos covering that spread.

I like your optimism, and I hope Sitake & Co.have been feeling the pressure and come up with a good game plan, but I'll be surprised if we keep it within two TD's, much less win.

We'll see...

Sorry Yzzazz, didn't even read your post so I am responding to the title. They could, but they won't.

BYU has a better chance of losing by 40 than winning at all.

I hope you are wrong but the team and coaches have to prove it.

That's because you have become emotionally invested in Sitake's failure, my friend.

I get it. It's been a disappointing season. BYU probably will lose.

But there is much greater chance of them winning and almost a certainty that the game will be close.

I like your confidence. I don't anticipate a win or even a close game, but I suppose that's because I've steeled myself against the probable outcome.

We could very well crush Boise State and then lose to UMass. That’s just the kind of team we are.

I'm not invested in Sitake's failure. I hope every week to see something that I haven't seen since Bronco left which is competent coaching. I don't see it. I wish it were otherwise.

Wow! I believe BYU would have rushed for 100 yards and won (!) had we put the ball in the endzone on that last series/play.

It hurts to come up short...barely. But, last week I thought Boise would win by 2+ touchdowns and score over 30 points. After the first quarter, I still thought Boise would win by 2+ touchdowns and score over 30 points.

I like that we competed and fought to get back into that game. Just frustrating to end the way it did with the ball inside the 10 yard line with time left for a few shots at the end zone.

It's the style of play for BYU under Kalani. Solid defense and enough offense for a chance to win against almost everyone on the schedule. Think about it, we were only out-matched against Washington and USU. Even last year, we were only outmatched by LSU, Wisconsin and Mississippi St.

We better annihilate UMass and NMSU...I think we have a legitimate shot against the Ewetes. Like most of our games, we will be within striking distance - hopefully, this time, we can make a couple of extra plays to tip us to the win.

Correction, we were outclassed by USU and Umass and ECU last year too. Also, under Kalani, we don't play solid defense, we play defense just good enough to lose. This defense has looked better the last 2 weeks, but still gives up at least 1 or 2 long TD drives to put our offense behind the chains giving othe teams a chance to throttle back their aggressiveness on offense and allow their defense to keep our incompetent offense from winning the game. Think about it, do you think Boise would have scored more, overall if our offense had shown any capability to get into the end zone? I do. There is so much wrong with this team and it all starts at the top. I allowed myself to believe at the end of that game only to watch a complete coaching breakdown in play calling and clock management and a loss.....again. I'm sick of it.
