Apparently, Quezada is not Sampson. HIs La Habra coach was quoted in a local story as saying how he counseled JQ about his BYU options. The coach said, "does the hair make you, or do you make the hair?" Quezada replied, "I make the hair, Coach."



Actually, I see some inadvertant opportunity for publicity here. While other players come in looking like they always did, JQ can make a splash with his new hair.



I'm not making fun here, I just see this as a good story for him and for us. It will be exciting to see what this kid can do in a BYU uniform.

You've gotta like his attitude. He's in company with JJ and curtis Brown IMO. Those guys are heroes to me for what they brought with them when they came to BYU. They put the things of the Lord ahead of the things of the world. Very unusual for 18 year old football stars.

Impressive that he thought to donate his ponytail to Locks of Love.

Actually - the newspaper - the Orange County Register is "the" newspaper for Orange County. It's a real major paper for the area - 2nd only to the L.A. Times (which is a socialist, communist puke rag!!!). I'm glad they gave the space to honor a big event in Josh's life.

With such depth at RB, I suspect that some of these new recruits will be red-shirted. I don't remember having this many RB's of this quality all at the same time. Perhaps Drew Phillips' speed will be needed for kick returns or special plays such as reverse hand offs. JQ might get red-shirted if Malosi Te'o looks good coming off his redshirt, joining a solid Kariya. Algernon Brown might be red-shirted with Unga staying. A J Moore might likewise be held in reserve if JJ stays healthy. Who knows, the new guys might beat out the established players, with the exception of Unga. Among the new guys, Quezada may be the one with the most chance of big game time as a true freshman. As for FB, I assume that either Peni Maka'afi or Anthony Heimuli will be able to pick up Manase's duties.



At any rate, we should have an amazing back-field to ease the transition for the starting QB, who ever that turns out to be. What a time to be a BYU fan. :D

I think Bronco and the staff have seen what TCU has done with all their converted running backs and like the idea of having athletes that could play linebacker, safety, defensive end, fullback, and of course special teams.

There's no doubt that some of these freshmen will be redshirted, as I expect some will be cross trained on defense too.

TCU recruits football players, their position is decided when they get to school; I can see BYU going that way some too.

Does anyone know anything about this guy other than his infamous haircut and last seasons stats?

Anything like how fast he is?

Is he a Barry Sanders type runner where he'll run circles around anyone?

OR like a Harvey Unga type runner, "Since I'm Poly I'll run right through you"???

I think he is faster than Harvey is. He is a 4.55 40, but think he can get it down to 4.45 or so. Harvey is 4.6 at best. But I think Harvey might be stronger, at least at this point.
