AP #20

What in the holy hell is going on that the AP would select BYU as the 20th ranked team in the country? I honestly believe they have improved significantly over last season, but we got a whole lot more of bump out of beating a FCS team than most do. It's an honor to be so recognized, and I'll take it, but it still doesn't feel right.



But...there were many times when it did feel right and we weren't called forward.



In total honesty, I thought for the sake of the PAC12 and the game coming against Washington, that we would be honored somewhat in the Coach's poll for a better match-up for this week's game against Washington, but we are only 26 there, nudged out by 4 points by Boise.



Sagarin still has us a ways back at 52. .



The team that isn't getting any love that should is USU. They've been solid in their games thus far. Had they beaten Michigan St., which they only lost by one touchdown on the road, they would possibly be that special team that BYU seems to be this year, but they have not garnered one vote in either poll.



Man, this has to be driving the Puketah fans nuts.



Oh well, there are still enough tests on our schedule to either bear up such a ranking or not.

Wisc went and beat Iowa, showing that maybe Wisc isn't as "bad" as folks thought. This helped BYU.

This was kind of a weird week in college football. We had 7 ranked teams ahead of BYU lose. And by throttling McNeese, it kind of automatically moves BYU ahead. The true test of whether we have an elite team is if BYU takes down Washington. No one thought they could outplay Wisconsin. But they did. If BYU finds a way to emerge 4-1, we can officially let the hype go buck wild. Beating two ranked teams on the road? This would be the early segment of a very special season.

The polls are treating BYU like a P5 school with some tradition, which is great. As others have said, Washington will either validate the ranking or prove that we are way overhyped.

CAL is now ranked in the top twenty five. We looked terrible against them, but all we needed was one more play to beat them. We beat a very highly ranked Wisconsin team and took down a P5 heisman hopeful in an impressive week 1 showing. Arizona has since rebounded and put together a few nice games. The end results on the field justify the ranking, even if the eye test hasn’t been fully passed yet.

I'm enjoying the top 20 ranking. No idea how long it will last, but enjoy it while you can!

Exactly, but we've never seen this before. How many times have we lamented the lack of consideration that is given the P5 teams. It just feels so weird to see it happen now with BYU.

Well...actually, they got pummeled by Houston, and then beat Southern Utah and Oregon St. Oregon St's only win was against...Southern Utah.

So BYU, Cal, Wisconsin, Washington, and Boise State are all ranked in the Top 25 in either the AP or the Coaches Poll.

Exactly, but we've never seen this before. How many times have we lamented the lack of consideration that is given the P5 teams. It just feels so weird to see it happen now with BYU.

Too me this is a sign that the tough schedules BYU has been trying to put together in independence is getting some respect.

Well...actually, they got pummeled by Houston, and then beat Southern Utah and Oregon St. Oregon St's only win was against...Southern Utah.

In those wins they put up over 600 yards of offense per gameand at least doubled their opponent’s score. They still have issues, but I consider that a nice rebound coming off that Houston debacle.

Most of the computer rankings are still using data from last year meaning we're lower than we should be.

Most of the scheduling boo birds have only seen the risk. They haven't acknowledged the reward: If you beat two of those good teams, you can be forgiven for losing to a third.



Honestly, by beating Wisconsin in the way we did, and with all of the sports writers watching, we will still be in the top 25 of the AP even if we lost to Washington but make it a close game, exciting game.



Not saying that's what will happen--BYU has had far to much variation this year for me to say; I feel like literally almost anything could happen and it wouldn't surprise me--but if it does, we'll still be ranked come Sunday.
