Why the Next 3 Weeks of BYU Football Will Be Amazing

No one anticipated a victory against #6 on the road, but BYU won 24-21. The team is now 2-1 and let's face it, a few plays from 3-0.



In week 4, BYU will serve a good, solid beat down on McNeese St. I think it is reasonable to predict 49-10. I am flying a cousin into town who received an arts degree from them, and will enjoy every moment of the game. This one will likely be my only in-person experience of the year, and I will savor every second.



In week 5, BYU offers an interesting matchup against Washington. If BYU wins on the road again here, the way is clear to an insane run to a marquee bowl or playoff.



In week 6, the Aggies will smell fear from BYU's play on both sides of the line. BYU 34, and the team from Ogden(?) 13.



With the win today, BYU has an unusually high ceiling. When you knock off a team like Wisconsin, you are in conversation to be the best in the land. It is okay to ignite the hype here.

It’s true we have a good enough schedule to be forgiven for losing to Cal. We will need to find some more wrinkles on offense and defense to make it all work out though.

Not to burst your bubble (I'd like to remain optimistic and enjoy the season) but Oklahoma's offense or Alabama's defense would shred us to bits, no matter how hyped or fired we were or how we played, as long as they come in focused to get the job done.



I'd say Oklahoma's defense is comparable to Wisconsin's, and we would have almost no chance at keeping their offense under 50 points, which we would not be able to compete against.



Alabama could likely keep us under 100 yards as a team, maybe under 50, and unless Mangum has night-and-day improvement from his current abilities and shines like Aaron Rodgers, either of the Manning brothers, Tom Brady, Steve Young, or Joe Montana, he wouldn't beat their defense through the air, even assuming our o-line could protect him that well for four quarters. And even if he becomes capable of making those throws, if he has no protection, he couldn't get the ball off. We would give up 6+ sacks regardless (either to Mangum or a backup that replaces him--not because he would be benched, but to protect him from injury and have the option of keeping him for the rest of the year) and finish with <150 passing yards and <4 points of offense. I wouldn't see us getting a defensive or special teams touchdown, or a safety, and a single field goal would be pushing it.



Or a number of other teams could beat us in similar fashion if they come out like it's the national champtionship for them...which it might, because a loss to us (even if we now finish 11-1) might mean the end of their playoff hopes for them (especially the Alabamas, Oklahomas, or other teams that we don't have scheduled, in which case we would be playing them in the postseason).
