For me I'm putting my blame in this order:



1. HC Sitake: one of the players said that the reason for the loss was because of a lack of preparation. REALLY? This one is on you Sitake!



2. WRs: Lots of drops again. It was hard to see from the TV which focuses on the QB and made it look like Tanner was indecisive, but apparently the WRs are having a hard time getting separation.



3. DC Tuiaki :very bland scheme that is getting ZERO pressure on the QB. I did see a few blitzes but even those failed to worry the QB.



4. OL: Decent pass protection but horrible push on the run game.



5. QB: Ok so he's not most at fault but still not a pretty game from him.



6. DBs: Maybe it's just coaching but our long ball defending is terrible. I feel like we're going to get at least two PIs each game plus get burned two times a game.



7. OC Grimes: While the play calling left a lot to be desired if we had simply executed better we would have won this game.



8. DL/LB: I blame the scheme over the players.

My #1 is Sitake, this mess started with the departure of Bronco and the hiring of him. My second blame is on the WR because they have sucked for so many years, 3rd is the OL which has sucked for years. Tuiaki gets some blame for putting together the defense and not being able to get teams off the field on 3rd down. Plus I blame him for the constant blown coverages that have been happening since his hire. How many deep balls go over the heads of the defense now compared to a Bronco run defense? Last of all, I blame the offensive play calling. I am not removing blame from the QB because he obviously is missing some throws and needs to anticipate the pass rush better (he needs to know when to step up in the pocket and when to run out of the pocket, he bails on his Oline way to early sometimes). But overall, I feel Tanner has played well enough to have won both of our opening games if the rest of the offense would have made the plays that they could have made around him.

Plenty of blame to go around, but it starts with the HC who let the team coast and believe they had this in the bag. Sitake is starting to see (and hopefully learn) what Bronco used to say--it is very VERY hard to win a football game; any football game.



Great teams are great because they have a combination of talent and relentless coaching. Grimes has seen that. I'd be surprised if he wasn't feeling a bit frustrated and undermined by Sitake calling for lighter practices.

Sitake sucks. He isnt a good coach. His record shows it. The sooner he's gone the better. I don't see a man like him changing his approach to his job. Time to get a new coach.



The WRs are abysmal. Our "best" WR is a transfer from Hawaii? One of the few teams we actually beat last year. Thats who we're hoping will level-up the WR corps? Not happening. The WRs have been horrible for years.



Tuiaki got the job because of nepotism. He's a bad DC. The numbers show it. At any other school he'd be out of a job. Bronco would have fired him mid season last year.



This team is bad. Won't get fixed till there is a new HC. Holmoe should retire.

I don’t see how the defense is getting so much blame. Any time the defense plays well enough that the offense only needs to put up 15 points to win I’d think they did their job.

I voted for Sitake. After watching most of the game again, I'll make it a tie between the O line and the receivers. Sitake comes in 3rd. Players gotta make plays.

I believe Tuiaki coaches the D Line. He took it over from Steve Kaufusi. So there you go.

But I agree with others that the D overall is getting more hate than they deserve. The O line's inability to block in the run game was a bigger factor than the D Line not getting pressure in the passing game.

Utah state vs BYU 2013 disagrees.

BYU defense had several chances to get CAL off the field on 3rd and long.

BYU defense currently is JUST soft enough to lose games we should win. Same could be said for offense, but letting cal go 8-17 on 3rd down and 1-2 on 4th doesn't cut it for me. Neither does letting them rack up 172 rushing yards to BYU's 72. Without the lucky scoop and score you're right, byu would be in even more of a pickle, but I don't think we're going to see that every game. BYU needs stops, better tackling, more pressure with that 4 man rush that has been pitiful so far. BYU defense needs to have the mentality that allowing any scoring is bad. Not "limit the scoring just enough that the offense can win the game".

I'm putting blame on the defense because they didn't get even 1 3rd down stop after half time. They got the 2 turnovers or CAL would have put up 35 points on us. Credit for that but you have to get off the field on 3rd down or it doesn't matter how good your offense is, you are going to have a hard time winning. As far as the Dline, Tuiaki is coaching it and they have not been able to pressure anyone since he took over that responsibility.

And if it's true about Sitake taking it easy on the players all week after the Arizona win, it definitely starts with him.

There is some rumor that some players skipped practice the Wed of the Cal game. Imagine what would have happened under Bronco if a player skipped practice.

Bronco didn't play players that didn't practice. Even injured players that had healed up enough to play, if they didn't practice, they didn't play, with very few exceptions.

Maybe Holmoe should be on this list.

Cal looked like they busted their balls all week. I was impressed with the golden bears.
