The goals for BYU are:

1. To win the National Championship

2. To go to a NY6 bowl game

3. To achieve the highest ranking possible

4. To win as many games as possible

5. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl team possible

6. To be better than Utah

Ideal records

BYU 12-0

Arizona 11-2 Pac-12 champs

Cal 10-2

Wisconsin 12-1 B1G champs

McNeese 11-1

Washington 10-3

USU 8-4

Hawaii 12-2

NIU 11-2 MAC Champs

Boise St. 12-1 MWC Champs

UMass 10-2

NMSU 8-4

Utah 1-11

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU over Cal

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah

Northern Illinois over Utah

C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS.

Arizona over Houston

#20 Boise St. over UConn

UMass over Georgia Southern

Hawaii over Rice

Utah St. over New Mexico St.

#9 Washington over North Dakota

#5 Wisconsin over New Mexico

McNeese St over Houston Baptist

D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked ahead of BYU cheer for the higher ranked (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).

Arkansas St. over #1 Alabama

Texas A&M over #2 Clemson

#3 Georgia over #24 South Carolina

Rutgers over #4 Ohio St.

UCLA over #6 Oklahoma

Alabama St. over #7 Auburn

Ball St. over #8 Notre Dame

#10 Stanford over #17 USC

SE Louisiana over #11 LSU

William and Mary over #12 Virginia Tech

Pitt over #13 Penn St

Youngstown St. over #14 West Virginia

ASU over #15 Michigan St

SMU over #16 TCU

Kansas St. over #18 Miss St.

South Carolina St. over #19 UCF

Western Michigan over #21 Michigan

Savannah St. over #22 Miami

Portland St. over #23 Oregon

Kentucky over #25 Florida

E. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. Cheer for the team that our opponents have defeated or will likely defeat. All things being equal cheer for the more connected team (unless it violates rules A-D). For example, Washington St. is one of the most connected teams to our opponents as they play 4 games against them (Cal, Arizona, Utah, Washington). The number by the team indicates how connected they are.

Air Force 2 over Florida Atlantic

Boston College over Holy Cross

Central Michigan over Kansas

Charlotte over App St

Coastal Carolina over UAB

Colorado 4 over Nebraska

Colorado St. 3 over Arkansas

Eastern Michigan over Purdue

FIU over Old Dominion

Florida St. over Samford

Fresno St. 2 over Minnesota 2

Illinois over Western Illinois

Incarnate Word over North Texas

Iowa 2 over Iowa St

Lamar over Texas Tech

Liberty 3 over Army

Miami OH over Cincinnati

Navy over Memphis

Nevada 2 over Vanderbilt

Nicholls St. over Tulane

North Carolina over East Carolina

Northwestern over Duke

Oklahoma St. over South Alabama

Oregon St. 3 over Southern Utah

San Diego St. 2 over Sacramento St

South Florida over Georgia Tech

Troy over Florida A&M

UNLV 2 over UTEP

Washington St. 4 over San Jose St 2

Eastern Kentucky over Marshall

Howard over Kent St

Indiana St over Louisville

Southern over Louisiana Tech

Southern Illinois over Ole Miss

Tennessee Martin over MTSU

Texas Southern over Texas St

Towson over Wake Forest

Indiana vs Virginia

Love these.

Someone needs to start the church of the undefeated season...

I would definitely be afraid to start this church amidst such a war of words and tumult of opinions. Maybe after week 3, THEN I hitch my wagon to that train and start heading west. But no, I'll not have any of this nonsense until a win on the road against Wisconsin. Because if that happens, not only is the church truer than ever, but the Second Coming is all but a lock.

Interesting that of all of the games played this weekend among the 120+ teams, only 17 games have no bearing on our SOS.

I was just thinking about the church of the undefeated season, and that maybe it was a GOOD thing we hadn't started it yet. Maybe we need a few partially true Reformation churches to pave the way, like Bowlptist Church or the Church of Blowing Out Your Rival (Couldn't figure out a good pun there, though Lutheran is an anagram of Ale Hurt, which you can ask Max Hall about)...

We'll have a couple of missionaries pay you a visit. Elder Swag and O'Neil. Grimes and Lamb are too busy right now.
