Why is it that MOST of the time, the announcement of BYU games is done by someone other than BYU?

The honest truth was that I knew in just a matter of time we'd be playing them again once they got their panties out of a wad over us leaving the MWC. I mean we have a history of having played them 78 times in the past, outside of UofU and USU, there is no one we have that deep of a history with. I wonder if the Wyoming dude that appears to be only wearing a barrel still is alive?

Good. I'd rather beat Wyoming than lose to Wisconsin.

Someone over at CougarBoard quoted some of the Wyoming fans reaction. What a joke. I can hardly respond after reading their reactions.



Fine, you hate us so much, don't show up to our game in Laramie. I'm sure some brave BYU fans will welcome the opportunity to not have Cowboy fans trying to urinate all over them.

I've known how we have joked about Wyoming and their fans, but really, their reaction to this game is totally uncanny and ludicrous. I guess I don't see how our leaving the MWC to go independent and make more money is taken by them as such a slap in the face. Just because Puketah and TCU left for a P5 conference, they get a pass. Hmmm.

I remember you had almost talked me into going to one and then I didn't. I don't know, it would be kind of a fun adventure, but sometimes it's hard for me to turn the other cheek. I don't do stupid really well.

I would be down for a road trip to Laramie haha. At least it's not in November.

I didn't read any of the Wyoming fan comments but I believe their hating us has less to do with us leaving the MWC and more to do with our religion.

I agree. The level of hatred seems very reminiscent of what we see out of Puke U up north. There are so many there that associate BYU with our Church and that is were they get hung up. They can claim we are thugs or cheap-shot artists, but that's not what they really mean. BYU athletes are no more thugs/cheap artists than they or anyone else. Maybe we don't hide it as well, but there is no way they have any evidence that we should be defined by such antics more so than their own teams.



Uniquely, they have a similar problem as does Puketah in that they have a significant number of members of the Church that simply turn their heads or bury them in the sand. It is what it is.

I like it more than I thought I would. It's a road game within driving distance and we have a solid contingency of fans and alumni in the Front Range. We haven't played in the Front Range since independence - it's about time.



As was pointed out, we have played Wyoming almost 80 times. That's a lot of history. I'd much rather play Wyoming than some of the G5 schools that have been on the schedule. Wyoming is the type of opponent who should attract fans to LES more than say UMass, NMSU, or Liberty. (Though, I think Liberty will have a decent team by the time we play them).

Here's five reasons why we'll never like the Cougars:



1. The Rivalry Dates Back Nearly 100 Years - The two teams first squared off in 1922 as members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They later jumped to the Skyline Conference, then the Western Athletic Conference and, finally, to the Mountain West Conference before BYU left in 2010.



2. BYU Has Been Good For Years - In the early days, Wyoming had the upper hand in the rivalry. However, BYU turned the tables in the 80s and 80s, winning 30 of the last 37 meetings with the Pokes. BYU leads the overall series 44-30-3.



3. The 1996 WAC Championship - Wyoming fans will always remember the magical 1996 season. Sadly, our effort to upset 6th ranked BYU in the inaugural WAC title game come up just short, as the 22nd ranked Pokes fell 28-25 in overtime.



4. The 'Black 14' Controversy - The defining moment in the history of Wyoming's football program came in 1969, when coach Lloyd Eaton dismissed 14 African-American players from the team for planning to protest alleged racism at Brigham Young.



At the time of the incident, Wyoming was undefeated and ranked12th. They went on to lose their last 4 games of the season. Things went from bad to worse the following year, when they compiled a 1-9 record.



5. BYU Fans are Already Talking Trash - As soon as the game was announced, BYU fans began to complain about the match-up on social media. Cougar fans contented they deserve to play a more high-profile opponent, in spite the fact that both teams have 8 wins this season.

Personally, I think most of it still stems from #4 and it's like they blame us for that incident happening. They think we are all racists...

At least the games are in September so fans won't be ice skating I-80 out to Laramie...

I read through the comments. No direct mentions about the Black 14 or religion (though there were quite a few comments on BYU fans being 'holier than thou' and one irritatingly sanctimonious fan egging them on.)



By far the most common reason they gave for their loathing for BYU was how they perceived that BYU had tried to "stab them in the back"...and very nearly succeeded with trying to get a bunch of teams to leave the MWC for the WAC. With Utah and TCU having just left, they claim that would have been the death knell for the MWC and left Wyo high and dry.



That's not quite how I remember things, but I can kinda see their point--BYU did have a secret, self-serving plan that did not include Wyoming and likely would have made things more difficult for them.



For the record, when I was at BYU I had no desire to go to a game in Laramie. (I took LaVell at his word regarding winning and losing and living in Laramie). I like the state of Wyoming, but I have no warmth for the University of Wyoming. Probably has something to do with the fact that it looks like some drunk poke was thinking about what colors to choose for the school and had a great idea when he went to the outhouse (because, you know, no outdoor plumbing).



The only good thing I can think about this is what Boney Fullery's gonna do with their roster and team The WVU posts were gold!

When we used to post parodies of teams that we used to play back to CougarBlue days and the inception of this site, Wyoming was about the easiest to come up with stuff to post. It was kind of like when I lived in West Virginia from 1993 to 2001. Everyone made fun of WV all the time and it was easy to do.



Honestly, like it was said, I'd rather see us play Wyoming that UMass, Liberty or what not because there is a history and there is satisfaction when you can beat someone that hates you so much.
