Rivals 250 updated

Heaps dropped overall, but is now the #1 QB in Rivals ratings, where they had him at #6 before. Scout still has Heaps at #1 as well. Rivals has BYU at #30 overall, scout at #16. I think Rivals puts more emphasis on speed, Scout on ability.



I still say he redshirts. Rivals thinks he will as well, to learn the O, and to get stronger.

Why does Rivals only have Heaps as a 4 star? I thought he had always been a 5 star.

Rivals has no QBs as 5-stars currently. Heaps is #1 for his position. Apparently Rivals is not sold on any of them as 5-stars this year.



All that matters to me is that they rate Heaps #1 at his position, and rate him highly. can't do better than #1.

I haven't been following Nick Montana's senior season, but in the game against Heaps I thought he Nick had a better game. I'm surprised he dropped in ratings, so the rest of his year must have gone down.



I think if Heaps was 6-4 or 6-5, he'd probably be around the top of the overall ratings. I'm a bit surprised that there is no 5-star QB as far as Rivals is concerned.

That is awesome. I am glad Jake is getting the respect he deserves. I can't wait until spring ball!!

Unless Munns or Lark really impress, there is no way that Heaps redshirts. Nelson simply is not the guy for our offense.

I wouldn't be suprised if Lark gives both jake and nelson and run for their money, but i think being away two years will hurt him. both jake and nelson have been playing for a least yaer coming into this. it takes time to get back into things. This may be the most exciting spring ball we have had in a long time. i hope there is a clear winner come fall time.



it will be nice having some depth at qb. if max hadn't have been as durable as he was this last few years could have been completely different. gaskins was a great guy, but was a big drop off from max.

Can this really be taken seriously? WE haven't seen one D1 throw out of Heaps yet. I know he's good (Heaps), but Nelson ain't awful.

Thing is, I haven't seen a single GOOD D1 throw yet out of Riley. So I'm willing to call it a draw. Nelson with the experience in the system already, Jake with a lot of the desirables in a QB that a traditional BYU offense is after.



I'm in neither camp yet. I personally think that Jake is the real deal. But I'm also willing to concede that the biggest progress Riley will make will be this offseason and he could look totally different than he did this past season (fresh off a mission). Whoever gets the nod I'll back 100%. I trust the coaches will play the guy who gives the team the best chance to win. But with a returning Harvey, great and experienced receivers and a strong OL, I like Jake's chances. Let's not forget that he's also already had the BYU playbook for the past 6 months and will likely come into spring ball a step ahead of most other true freshman.

Having seen Riley in 4 practices and a scrimmage at LES, I can honestly say I believe that Heaps is a better QB right now for our system.

I didn't catch his play vs. FSU's 3's, as I was walking home from the stadium at the time. I did, however, see him throw a would-be pick on an awful pass vs. Wyoming. He sure didn't look good against our D-1 talent in the practices I watched him in this summer. Also, having a guy with Di Luigi's size at QB just makes me very nervous. I have nothing against him. As a fellow USU transfer who also saw the light, I can relate to him. However, I just don't think he's the guy, and have heard as much from reliable sources. If he's good enough to beat out Heaps, Munns and Lark (in that order, IMHO), then I'll be extremely excited.
