Average Age: BYU vs. Other Teams

CBS does a roster breakdown, including the average age for each team. A quick glance says that the rosters look as if they're up to date (Matt Bushman listed a a sophomore, for example).



Anyway, BYU's average age is 23.3 and Arizona's is 23.1. The old man argument doesn't hold much water, especially since Arizona State's is 24.8.



Utah St. wins the Old Men trophy among our opponents. The aggie's average age is 24.7.

Nice find! We should sticky this one. There are 38 teams with an average age of 23.0 or higher (and some pretty major names). BYU is sitting at 23.5. And for most of those teams, their average age isn't being artifically being inflated by athletes taking 2 years off from the program and getting out of shape.



Can we finally put the old man argument to bed?

That's great to see.

It's the crazy strategy of recruiting kids who can't cut it academically, so they never get to their junior or senior seasons and end up at JUCO instead.

It looks like the original page has been deleted and the link rerouted. Google still shows the link as active, but you'll notice the end of the link has been changes from "roster-analysis" to "teams" once you tap the link. Perhaps CBS received complaints from some P5 schools that their analysis was ruining the "BYU has an old man advantage" narrative.
