2018 Position Group Rankings (Correction

Please revote as I made the correction for my mislabeling of LB as DL.

Here's where we stand:

Least Confident

Now that we got a chance to see the team play, there would be some shifting of these rankings. The biggest mover would probably be the DBs.

DBs are a weak spot. Wilcox in particular.

You have to remember that there was no pass rush, intentionally, in order to keep Tate from busting off 80 yard TD's. The Db's were put on an island and had to cover. I'm going to give them a pass until we meet a drop back passer, like this weekend.

Wilcox was not as bad as some are making him out to have been. He made several solid plays where he was out on an island.

I think if Chris Wilcox hadn't interfered, at least one but maybe both of those throws are touchdowns. Then, we would be having a whole different conversation. It feels like AZ took 8-10 throws deep, but maybe I am wrong. When this happens both teams are really rolling the dice and if I am a DB and it looks like a good ball, I would do the same as Wilcox to take the penalty and prevent the momentum-swinging big play.

While I agree that PI is better than giving up a TD in general, there are two I remember that were just bad. One, the ball was overthrown, and Wilcox brings him down anyway. The other one was on their first TD drive. 3rd and 2, Wilcox had great position and could have made a play on the ball if he got his head around, but he didn't. Given how the whole game went, (17 of 34, 197 yds, 1 TD) I'm okay with that. But it's something he can improve on---and we'll need him to with some of the games we've got coming up. If we dare some of these teams to throw it, they will do so, and well.

I completely agree. That's what I saw, too. However, Wilcox did seem to get better as the game went along, but those two early plays were pretty frustrating.



The second one was so badly overthrown that Kalani was arguing that it was an uncatchable ball and there shouldn't have been a PI flag. Total bonehead play by Wilcox (not that I'd do any better, of course!)
