Ranking the 2018 Schedule in Importance

1. McNeese St.- All downside and no upside. We must win this game to achieve any goal.
2. Utah St.- a home game vs. an instate opponent. It would be crushing to lose, and bowl eligibility would be in doubt. It keeps us ahead of them in recruiting. It could potentially give momentum for the rest of the season.
3. Utah- A loss at the end of the year is a bummer. Always important to beat rivals. The only reason isn't #1 is because it is on the road and their talent advantage so a loss is at least understandable unlike a loss to Utah St.
4. Cal- Home game vs. Pac-12 team. We need to recruit Pac-12 kids. Could give us a shot to leave September .500 or better. A loss could make the season especially painful.
5. Washington- Best Pac-12 team on the schedule. If we want to be relevant in Pac-12 recruiting circles winning this game would be the best way to do it. It is the type of game where if we are valiant in the loss it could still be positive momentum.
6. Wisconsin- If we want to put ourselves on the map, this is the game we need. It will have the best tv coverage. We haven't defeated an above .500 P5 team on the road in 21 years. It would likely be our most impressive win in a quarter century. The downside isn't all that big and we don't recruit this area often so it is not a big deal.
7. Arizona- First game of the year. Pac-12 team on the road. An important but not most important recruiting area. Nobody is going to watch this game. A loss to a potential Heisman winner on the road is understandable.
8. Boise St.- a regional rival. We battle them for recruits. would be a boost to get a win in Boise. Could make a national splash as well. It a road game against a good team so a loss would be acceptable in most circumstances.
9. NMSU- home game. Got to win on Senior Day.
10. Hawaii- Credibility in the islands is important. Home game. Need the win. If we lose, things have already started going wrong in a bad way.
11. Northern Illinois- Need to win our home games, but nobody is going to care. They will likely be better than their record also playing Utah and Iowa this year.
12. Umass- a road game against a nobody opponent in a cold terrible venue where nobody will watch.
