Very Interesting Stuff on Norm Chow and USC

I found a blog that seems to have some pretty good sources close to the USC program that described what the Norm Chow to USC stuff was all about. It is blog, so I don't know how accurate it is, but it is pretty interesting.



First, you'll remember that ESPN's Shelley Smith reported very early on that Norm Chow to USC was a done deal. It looked like it was part of the packaged deal to bring on Lane Kiffin. It was reported less than half an hour after the Kiffin hire was announced:

It looks like USC AD Mike Garrett was only superficially involved with the hire, and that it was really done by a hiring committee made up of Ed Roski (a property developer that is planning to build an NFL stadium east of L.A.), Pat Haden (former USC QB and sports commentator), and Jerry Buss (owner of the Lakers).



They went after Gruden initially, but he balked when they were going to force him to hire Chow and Ed Orgeron as coordinators. They finally settled for Kiffin after getting him to committ to bring his dad and to work with Orgeron and Chow.

Apparently, Pete Carroll pushed very hard for Lane Kiffin, which was another factor in his hiring.



You might remember that prior to Chow leaving USC in the first place, there was rumors of conflict between Chow and Carroll and Kiffin. Kiffin replaced Chow as OC, and many think he tried to undermine Chow while he was at USC. One of the conditions for getting the USC offer was for Kiffin to accept Chow as his OC if he would take the position. Apparently USC tried really hard to get Chow, offering him a multi-million dollar contract, before Chow eventually turned them down.



While USC is trying to get Chow, Kiffin makes remarks to the media that he will be calling the offensive plays as he always had during his time at USC. He made the remarks at his press conference and on a radio station that broadcasts UCLA games. If you are trying to lure one of the most accomplished offensive coordinators in the sport to your team, you don't announce to the media that he will not be the one calling the plays.

Chow later rejected USC's offers and announced that he is staying at UCLA. It turns out Kiffin didn't really make any effort at all to get Chow, only leaving one voice mail for him.

USC got a real clown for a head coach. I actually liked his antics at UT, because I thought they were just an act to give his team confidence. Now I realize he is just a fool that needs to be humbled. I hope USC goes 0-12 next season.

Question C: Given Kiffin’s penchant for running afoul of NCAA regulations and rule provisions, has Mike Garrett lost his ever-loving mind?



Question D: If USC and Florida play in a bowl game, will Meyer resign for health reasons on the day the matchup is announced, and then come out of retirement the day before the game is played?



Question E: Did USC-Washington just become an even bigger emergent rivalry in the Pac-10 than USC-Oregon or USC-Stanford?



Question F: When will someone at NBC – realizing the demise of The Tonight Show - simply bring a camera and a microphone to USC’s games, thereby capturing the dialogue between Lane Kiffin and his three favorite people in the world: Jim Harbaugh, Steve Sarkisian and Rick Neuheisel?



Question G: Can life get any more absurdly fun than this? Who needs scripted midday soap operas when you can simply offer the life of Lane Kiffin as college football’s most over-the-top, betrayal-filled suds-fest?

I, for one, couldn't be happier that USC got a clown for a head coach. He'll be right at home. :lol:

Does USC have a blue turf? Or even worse a red one?

I've got this all figured out. The reason Carroll pushed for Kiffin is that he will fail miserably in about the same time the Seahawks realize Carroll sucks as an NFL cpoach. SC will come begging Carroll to "save" the program for about $4.5 million a year and he'll agree because of his "loyalty" to the school. Kiffin will set his sights on the Seahawks' job
