Tasha, according to Mitch Harper on ESPN960 is a big deal because apparently contact with recruits has really suffered over the last 18 months. He said on the radio today that as he talked with 3 and 4 star recruits who BYU was pursuing that they told him that they would sometimes not hear anything from BYU for 3 or 4 months.



I don't know who the last recruiting staff member was, but apparently they weren't keeping on top of the day to day communication aspect.

The more I hear about BYU football recruiting the more irritated I get. We were sold that the reason Kalani was such a great hire is because he was going to be able to recruit to BYU like no one else. Now we find out that recruiting was basically not happening. (no contact for months). You have got to be kidding me. No wonder our last recruiting class was rated in the 80's.

What happened to return and report on your recruiting efforts. How did KS not know the coordinator was not doing his job? Same with the other coaches. I can see with the offense staff all losing their jobs that this piece would suffer while you waited for the new staff to get on board.

The old recruiting coordinator was Tevita Ofahengaue, who was relieved of those duties in February.



It took Kalani and Holmoe 3+ months to replace him, and my guess is that is where communication fell through the cracks.

BYU needs to get better at hiring people. This isn't a Kalani's problem, it's a lack of institional awareness of the reality of modern collegiate sports.
