BYU ranked 91st best football team, fair?

What do you think about the ranking? Is it fair, is it too high? Is it too low?

Considering we lost at home to UMass, it's hard to argue we deserve better.

Potentially upgraded the offensive coaching staff.



Downgraded the defensive staff though.

Until we prove otherwise, we are what we were last year IMO.

So based on those rankings, we're winning 3 games this fall. Ouch. I could see it. But wow.

I'd put us in the low 70s, with a really wide confidence interval--of like 30 spots.



I have a lot of respect for Grimes, and the rumbling coming across the news wires are that the players are hungry and working hard. But I don't think anyone really knows what we have in Sitake yet. (Except that his floor is lower than Mendenhall's). So I wouldn't be surprised by anything between 100 and 50. Anything in the 40s and I'd be mildly impressed.

BYU had just one bad year, and admittedly, it was very bad. But, other nationally prominent teams are not automatically expected to remain as bad as their worst season ever. Even if last year’s coaching staff were still in place, I would not expect two consecutive seasons like last year’s.



I think the only way forward, is up. The talent is there. The coaching seems at least adequate. The offense, especially, should be fierce. The level of success should hinge on how much the players can believe in success.

91st is a very fair ranking. It it becomes reality we will have a new head coach next year.

Those programs kick ass in recruiting. BYU was already doing more with less.

Exactly. That's how far my expectations have fallen for this coaching staff. Without a hard-nosed, well respected group of seniors in key positions to lead, the coaches haven't shown anything AT ALL that would give confidence in having anything better than a middle of the pack mid-60's season. Grimes and Grimes alone is the exception, based on his previous tenure and his career stops. But he's also in his first year as an OC. There will still be growing pains. Always are.
