Subtle dig at last year's offensive coaches?

As if we didn't have enough evidence of a complete schism between defensive and offensive coaches, here's a little nugget dropped by Coach Tuiaki after practice yesterday. As if we didn't need more evidence the offensive staff was simply unqualified for their positions and were completely over their heads, here are Coach Tuiaki's words about this year's offensive staff (emphasis added):

“We all know it’s kind of the nature of the business that turnovers happen and there are both good and bad things that can happen. I think the guys who have come in are all phenomenal, professional guys. Not to say anything about what’s happened in the past, but from what I can tell from my side of the ball there is a lot of professionalism and pride in their work and they are doing a great job.



“They have four coordinators in the offensive room and a lot of experience. Even Fesi (Sitake) has been a coordinator before.”

BYU got what they paid for last year.

Really! That had to be mostly Detmer's salary because I thought I read somewhere talking about how BYU was not paying the position coaches very well.

I have heard from people I trust that while the assistant coaches salaries were less than upper tier p5 every single coach last year was making more than any previous coach in the same position at BYU. Considerably more.

Wow, did they have a good gig.

I didn't see a dig either, and Tuiaki wouldn't be one to talk. His defense put no pressure on the QB and could not get off the field on third down.
