Heath Schroyer to McNeese State

McNeese State is set to hire Heath Schroyer as their next men's basketball head coach according to reports.



Schroyer has been back with BYU for one season and had tremendous influence over the offense and overall style of play.

Makes sense. A head coaching job for him. He was brought in to improve the offense and defense and neither really happened. Our defensive improvements were basically slowing down the pace to control scoring. The offensive improvements were a better low-post scoring threat and a guard who could get to the rim for the most part.

This team wasn't really any better or worse than last year's team. Is that good, since we lost Mika and Emery? Is that bad, since only 2 players on the team looked better this year than they did last year? I don't know.

Who are you two players that you think looked better this year? Hopefully one of them is Luke Worthington. Last year he looked like someone who had no place being on a Division 1 hoops court. This year he actually looked good at times.

Childs improved, significantly. In fact, I saw little drop off between Childs and Mika.



Bryant improved.



Haws became a much better all around player. He played much more in control this season.



Worthington improved a ton.



Dastrup improved. In fact, he should have gotten a lot more minutes.



There was plenty of improvement, which you would expect and hope to see from a team of sophomores.



I think our guys got gassed. Defense was better at the beginning of the season. We need a deeper bench. We only went 3-4 deep off the bench. Look at Bryant's minutes. Guy hardly ever subbed out.

Worthington, maybe. Dastrup never learned how to play D, and Haws stagnated offensively.

BYU is never going to take the next step without getting someone on staff who can develop front court talent.



That is priority A1 IMHO for replacing Schroyer. A2 is a no-holds-barred drill sergeant.

It's amazing to me that Gonzaga develops and finds front court talent at the rate they do. MArk Few is a magician.
