If he is officially the winner, he adds $100,000 to the $33,500 he already won getting to the Final Four.

It is "YAY". I'm simply impressed that even though it didn't seem like Cougar Nation's heart was in this at the very beginning, as they run this "pageant" every season, they came through and found a way to beat the other 47 universities. These are the small things that demonstrate what BYU carries in the market place.

The Pukes can claim all the superiority they want and on the field of FB they are justified, but BYU still has the greater marketing power and it is demonstrated over and over again. Coach Larry Krystkowiak of Puketah wasn't even in the initial 48. That says something in itself.

So Coach David Rose was the first non-Big Ten coach to win this contest.

We didn't "raise"a single red cent. That money was sitting there from the day Infiniti announced the contest. You could just as easily say that "we just diverted $100k from three other charities we don't know anything about."



One way or another, some charity was going to get $100k for cancer research. All the votes did was divert it from all the other possibilities to the one Dave Rose backed. I'm not qualified to judge whether that was the most deserving destination. Hence the hesitant "yay".



I'm glad Infiniti gets enough (or think it gets enough) publicity from the event to make it worth it, and I hope they continue to do these contests, but I'm never sure what we're celebrating when bots and unblinking fan bases are choosing where charitable donations are directed.

Well, we didn't actually "raise" money for charity. Without any effort on our part, Infiniti was going to donate the money to some charity regardless if we the fans won this for Coach Rose, but this brings the money to his specific charity. So in essence we didn't go out and draw out $100K that wouldn't have already gone to some charity, but hopefully his is a valid charity that will benefit from the infusion of money. I honestly supported this without looking into what his charity was all about--BYU Simmons Center for Cancer Research.

The BYU Simmons Center for Cancer Research is an organization composed of distinguished professors in the fields of Chemical Engineering; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Health Sciences; Integrative Biology; Microbiology and Molecular Biology; Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science; Physiology and Developmental Biology; and Statistics. These professors are some of the best noted and productive researchers in their respective departments. Every year the SCCR funds numerous cancer research fellowships, allowing students a chance to work with these prestigious researchers to study cancer and its mechanisms. These professors and students are driven to make a significant contribution to the discovery of a cure for cancer.



Since 1997, when the fellowship program was initiated, more than 200 undergraduate and graduate students have been funded for full-time cancer research over a semester. Their research has resulted in more than 140 publications with more to come. More importantly, the SCCR fellowship program has been a platform for many students into lifelong careers of oncology research as well as clinical practice. The Simmons Center for Cancer Research is proud to fund many of Brigham Young University’s brightest student researchers in cancer research.



I believe this is a valid recipient of cancer related fund raising.

Yes, that money was going somewhere, but now because of us that money is being directed to a specific charity. Fine...we didn't "raise" it, but we won it for that charity.



Bottom line, people are raining on the parade. We got a charity a 100k, which I am sure they are very grateful to get, and if it weren't for us they wouldn't have received it. We did something good. Way to turn a positive into a negative...

It's actually more than $130,000.
