BYU vs SMC

Playing SMC in the WCC feels a lot like playing UNLV in the MWC. It just seemed that we often had difficulty finding a way to win. We can't let a team beat us 3 games straight, but it's hard to muster any thought that the outcome will not be the same. The boys have been playing good, but we need great to win.

They've beaten us 5 straight.

It's 5 games straight. Time to break the streak.

The only chance BYU has in the game tonight is if they figure out how to be more physical than SMC. The chances of that are very low but we can always hope.

There are teams that seem to have "luck" and I've always considered SMC one of those teams when they play us. Not that they haven't had or currently have talent--they surely do, but they somehow find a way to win when the chips are down. Deladova. That's all I have to say to explain what I mean. Our 1st game this season in Provo with SMC.



Saturday, when SMC, like our first game in Provo, was down most of the game (at one point by 15) and then they squeeze it out with 3 strait 3 point shots--boom--boom--boom at the end. Calvin Hermanson had been shooting 16% on 1 of 6 (1 for 3 3-ptrs) and 2 TO's and then at 3:51 remaining, hits 2 foul shots and then 3 consecutive 3 point shots. Game over.



Everyone has games like that, but it seems like they have more than a few. Maybe it just feels that way.

BYU only wins if the WCC wants a 3rd team bid to tourney via giving BYU a shot at the zags in the finals.

This team VS SMC. I almost can't watch. Easier to watch BYU vs zags for me.

BYU vs AUS. Hard to imagine a good outcome right now.

4 possessions (3 offensive rebounds) and a tip in by Ford is why BYU can't beat SMC.

Wow. We're shooting 60% and still missed some gimmies. I am not a fan of Childs taking jumpers, but it is what it is.



We need some points from Hardnett and Haws.

Childs and Bryant are a great combo. They've got 18 and 9 points, and BYU leads by 4 at halftime after playing some good basketball, especially offensively. Jock is still trouble though.

Jock is also going to have to play pretty weak sauce defense the rest of the way or risk fouling out.

If we can shut SMC down from three-land when we double Landale we have a shot.

Can BYU hold Landale in the 2nd half? If so, BYU wins. If not...

Landale has come out a lot more aggressive on the 2nd.
