St. Mary's loses to USF

I wouldn't be qualified to comment. My team hasn't been a top-15 team in 7 or so years, and my team loses repeatedly to lower-tier WCC teams year after year after year after year.

It is surprising to see St. Mary's stoop down into BYU-level failure. They'll still make the Tourny though, unlike us.

Yep and clearly a coach should be able to stay as long as they want when 85% of their wins are against 100+ RPI teams.

Head scratcher losses happen.



The issue is when it happens more than once a season, which does seem to be the case for BYU.



We have three bad losses on the season: LMU (rpi 281), Pacific (rpi 133), and UT Arlington (rpi 160).



Our other loses on the season, SMC (rpi 35) twice, GU (rpi 38), and Alabama (rpi 31), aren't bad loses.



Erase those bad losses and we are tourney bound. One loss against Pacific or UT Arlington (a single head scratcher) and we would have had a decent shot at a bid. But three head-scratcher losses? That's a trend.



I hate it, but it is what it is.

I hate to use this again but BYU doesn't have even one Sr on the team. They start a bunch of sophomores and a Jr. I am hoping that the turnover that we have been seeing over the last few years after the 18 year old mission change will stop and we start to see more consistency on the roster. Consistency will eliminate some these head scratcher losses.

No, they shouldn't. But I think Bennett gets a pass. I mean, half his team speaks Australian!

San Diego is another bad loss. RPI 163.



We lost a chance at an at-large bid when we lost to Pacific, so it's still win the WCC tourney or bust, but 4 losses to teams with an RPI of more than 100 is bad.



At least we beat Utah. That's more that can be said of the football team.

Weak rejoinder. We were talking about losing to "lower-tier" WCC team regularly, but I think you lost sight of that in the eupohoria of the win.

If you honestly think SMC losing to BYU last night is the same as BYU losing to LMU, Pacific, or San Diego, Rose should be canned for allowing the program to drop to a point where people think of us on a par with those sad-sacks.
