Unga staying for Senior Year!!

Great news for BYU. Imagine an Unga/Quezada platoon. Just hope we can find a solid battering ram to lead block next year. The O-line will be great. This takes pressure off the new QB, whoever it will be.

This is very good news. His presence should remove a lot of pressure from a new QB.

Harvey Unga, BYU's all-time leading rusher, will return for his senior year and not put in his name for the NFL draft, according to his father, Jackson Unga.



After receiving his evaluation from the NFL and meeting with a series of advisors, Unga made the choice to return to BYU and informed head coach Bronco Mendenhall and position coach Lance Reynolds this morning, according to Jackson Unga.



"This is a decision he made on his own after gathering as much information as he could," Jackson Unga said. "He believes he should return, get his degree, put all he can into his senior season in extending his record and helping the football team achieve its goals. He loves BYU and his coaching staff and believes it is in his best interest to take this path at this time in his career."

I wonder if Harvey plans to play RB full time again, or if he is going to bulk up and switch between RB and FB next year to improve his draft status?

Harvey's return makes me expect one more win next season than I expected without him. FWIW, I think he stays at RB. He has nothing to prove as a FB, he will best serve the team as a FB, and cross-training as a FB won't do anything to improve his draft stock.

The only thing that would improve his draft stock is if he gets significantly faster, which I don't anticipate.

The updates on the situation throughout this waiting game indicated that Harvey was facing strong pressure from family and friends both ways. According to the Des News story, Harvey just recently got back his NFL evaluation. This morning, Harvey's dad told the DesNews that Harvey was coming back to get his degree, set records, and help the team.



My baseless read is that it might have been Harvey's dad that was pushing for him to stay in school, and when Harvey decided to go pro, Dad decided to take a last stab at getting Harvey to stay by 'leaking' that he was staying to get the expectations of the Cougar faithful up and put pressure on Harvey not to back out.



Just my conspiracy theory side shining through.
