Ty Detmer almost ended up as head coach

Been Criddle is reporting that he has been told by people close to the situation that Tom Holmoe originally discussed hiring Ty Detmer as Head Coach but Ty didn't feel ready to take on the role.

Should have done it. Sitake would have come as the DC

I'd still love him to be Head Coach.



Maybe this is all just some weird game of job leapfrog.

Sounds like Holmoe was hedging his bets and brought into the fold two potential future head coaches.



2015: TH to KS: we want you as HC but you have to hire Ty.



KS: OK but he’s not my boy.



TH: that’s the deal. Take it or leave it.



Sometime 2017 in the abyss: TH to KS:

THis is just absolutely unacceptable performance!



KS: ya. No kidding. Our O sucks eggs. You hired Ty but want to hold me accountable for your hire?



TH: this whole team sucks.



KS: Our D is ranked 56th. Our O is ranked 100+. Stick it in your ear. And I’ll take the entire Poly nation with me when I go back to Utah.



TH: You suck.



KS: You suck.



TH: you have one more year to fix all these problems! You can hire your own damn OC, Ty has a guaranteed contract and we aren’t going to cut him loose and pay him for nothing. He can at least coach QBs. And that’s the deal. Take it or leave it.



KS: I can hire my buddy?



TH: yep. But live or die by your choice and your little DC too. Fix it or get out bc I have a Ty in my left pocket. Then if you fail next year and even the Polys, who are starting to turn on you, including some recruits who have already cut and run, will run you out of town themselves. And BYU won’t be hurt by Poly nation bc you sucked as a HC even though you are an outstanding man and we love you.





Kalani’s stock dropped generally by a 1/3 after his horrible season. Kalanis stock just dropped some more with Ty being scapegoated and gutted—maybe by a total of 50%? Throw in the Pau’u debacle. Ugh.

Another losing season OR some more transfers, bailed recruits and another scandal or two and KS is all but gone.

Cougs_Rule, where did you plant the tape recorder? Because I can totally see it going down like that.

Personally, I like the you suck, you suck portion. :-) Bc so much of what’s going down seems like weenie, amateur hour. Anyway, I cracked myself up.
