BYU 2017

Initial thoughts:

This is a much better team, even without Emery, this is a team that will be a much more disruptive force in the WCC vs last year.

Hardnett. best ball handling PG that BYU has seen since......?

TJ and Elijah seem much more confident and sure in their roles.

Worthington and Dastrup will actually contribute

Looking for a huge season for Childs. Guy is a beast.

BYU isn't losing to a UVU type team this year, have looked much closer to a D1 team vs last year when they were looking like a church ball team.

UVU looks pretty good though.

But there's no way the team could be better without Mika!

This is lone peak .33 and I think it's going to be a better/improved team. As down as I was on this team last year, they are going to have a much better year.

Team ball and defense have been missing from BYU since Jimmer. If either one of those are back, it ought to be a better season.

I think this has more to do with Heath Schroyer being the defacto "main" coach now and less to do with Mika being gone or Emery's off the court issues no longer distracting the team.

Congrats to 1-0 BYU clinching their improved season and NCAA tournament bid.

Hardnett had a very rough game vs Princeton, and the addition of Mckay Cannon may cut some of his minutes. Really liking the chemistry that this team has shown so far. Very unselfish and willing to pass the ball. Unlike any team since before Jimmermania. 936118585507717123

I'd agree that this is playing a huge role in this years team defense and patience on offense. methodical, more effective pace to the team. BYU has no bad losses this year (so far).

First 15 baskets were made off of 15 assists—now that’s some team basketball right there.

The team does look better right now than they were last year (thanks Schroyer!). The jury is still out on NCAA Tourny-level improvement. About 70-ish in the computers now. Beating Utah State and Utah would really help. I also really hope we avoid bad losses this year (sub-150 RPI).

It was nice to beat UVU, that's for sure.

Utah Valley's ESPN ranking coming into the season was 157 and their current RPI is 53. Here is our PER against them:

BYU's knocked off 2/3 Utah teams. Time to get the third! Great game vs USU tonight. BYU is playing some in-control disciplined basketball.

I'm really liking Elijah Bryant, TJ, CAnnon has been a very welcome surprise. Obviously this team would be a lot less without Yeoli. Great TEAM feel to them this year though.

Childs/Bryant/Hardnett/Cannon are a great 4 right now.

Don’t they still play both Weber and :utard:? So they are only half way home with in state teams.

Byufan4, I am looking forward to your Utah State per rankings. The team will look good and I think the Shelley Fella will be at or near the top.

While I liked the MWC from a competitive standpoint I do not miss the TV deal. And not just because of $. I was not able to watch this on my Playstation Vue. :~( Here is the Utah St. PER:

Cannon, in his second game, coming off the bench, gets Player of the Game! I know it feels good to beat an in-state rival, but just how good of a win was this? Utah St. was ranked #127 by ESPN coming into the season and currently has an RPI of #167. So this was an average win, but I'll definitely take it!



Here is the season ave PER so far. Still need another week to see where Cannon is really going to settle in. But I'm liking him so far!
