OT: Bronco Mendenhall's Virginia having the wheels fall off this week

Virginia is losing to Pitt (3-5) by a score of 7-28 going into the 4th quarter. If this score maintains, Virginia will drop to 5-3 (2-2).

We'll, he plays absolute garbage as a schedule. We'd easily go to a bowl with his schedule, as bad as we are. BYU has never had a lot of depth, and going up against a murderous front seven of games really did a number on our two deep.



Bronco and Robert Anae are fools gold. I have the patience to wait for the real thing, not a flash in the pan that can easily shut down by a .500 team.

Fool's gold is what we are seeing at BYU right now.

BYU would not be bowling this year against any sort of ACC conference schedule.

I agree Bronco wasn't a top 5 college football coach. But to say he's fool's gold is a long stretch. Maybe a high quality silver?

The gimmicky nature of Anae's offense and Bronco's defense both lend to over-weighted results. Good results against bad teams, and horrible results against good teams.



Like I said, I'm patient enough to wait for BYU to become real gold again. We haven't had that since LaVell left.

We are a good offensive scheme with bad (or wrong) players. We don't have a gimmicky offense. It is a proven offense that is used almost exclusively on the Pro level. The very best players and coaches in the world use our offense, because it is the best.



It isn't good right now, so it is copper. But with the right people it will be something special.



I feel much more comfortable in the direction our offense is heading (provided that we get rid of a few of the offensive coaches and assistants, and can get the right people as recruits in to the system) than I ever did under Anae. It is the right scheme for our talent pool. I can wait a year or two for that to happen. I am patient.

Eh, it wouldn't be much different with the last coaches. They had terrible recruiting years and the cupboards are effectively bare. We have almost no depth, and very little skill at any position. Some of that is on coaching, but some of that speaks to a miserable job recruiting. Things will get better. Taysom and Jamal were lipstick on a very ugly pig. When we get our recruits playing we'll get back to 9 win seasons (and better).

Your opinion seems to be widely disagreed with by most on here. This team and last year's would have much better records with Bronco and Anae. They were good coaches. Not great, but not bad either.

I'm not sure Bronco would have done any better than Sitake last year. This year ... we'll that's a different question.

This is stated widely on this board, almost as fact. It goes unchallenged by everyone.



How can anyone even know this? There are infinite number of variables. Not to mention the first, that Bronco CHOSE to leave (which was in my opinion a very smart thing to do... he didn't do a good job of recruiting, and that with the difficulty of scheduling could have been very problematic for he and Anae.)



That he got more money in the process is icing on the cake for him, I am sure.

I think it is funny that While Bronco was winning no one says a word, now that he has lost 2 in a row people start yelling "See, bronco would have sucked this year at BYU too!" So Bronco's Virginia team has less talent than BYU this year and is 5-3 in a tougher conference than BYU's independent schedule. I don't know why Virginia has dropped 2 games to pretty mediocre teams in the ACC but he has. I am confident that if he stays at Virginia, they will continue to improve and get to a bowl game. Virginia has been an ACC doormat for many, many years. BYU was a 9 win average team with Bronco and this year we have won 2 games and lost to some really, really bad teams. Trying to say Bronco's 2 losses in a row justifies BYU's horrible play is unbelievably moronic.
