PSU second half.

I'm getting sweaty palms. I thought switching QBs would make BYU a world beater (sorry had to take that jab at you "put in Mangum fans"). This is closer than it should be. BYU looks lethargic and rusty.

I just can't stand how terrible we are on 3rd down. Offensively and defensively... so soft and extremely infuriating. On 4th down too for that matter. Seems like a perennial issue too.

Weak weak weak offense.

The only silver lining from this game is that LSU won't be worried about us one bit. Hopefully they're wrong, but I'm not so sure.

I can't remember a game where we had more penalties that were more negatively impacting on us in this game.

Tanner was one of the few offensive highlights. It is nice to have a QB who can pass.

16/27 for 194 yards and a 131 PER? Yep Tanner was definitely exceptional against Lower division Portland state. If We had been playing anyone else, it would have looked like Michigan 2015. I think Tanner has major potential, that he could be one of the best passing QB's to come to BYU in years, but to say "It was sure nice to have a passing QB again" based on this game is ridiculous.

Quit over-reacting. The offense will get better when they work with their entire playbook, not just the 5 different plays they were running in the two sets they wanted to show.

This is what I hear every year, the offense was hiding its playbook. I will believe it when I see it. I hope they were hiding the playbook but everybody was saying the same thing last year and then started blaming Hill when the playbook never changed.

Ouch. Careful Detmer, you're going to get lumped in with "vanilla" anae if that was the full playbook.

I'm not buying it. I know that's what he said, but I'm betting that's strategic coach speak, due to the fact that our next opponent had nothing else to do this week but watch us.

I agree. He didn't say he would use the full playbook. He just said he wasn't going to limit it. In my mind, you could not limit it by choosing plays from the play book that you were going to run against PSU that were different from plays in the playbook that you would run against LSU. Also, if you needed other plays you could draw from those you were going to use against LSU, but we lead the game so there was no need to deviate.



People need to get used to a pro-style offense. It isn't meant to blow teams away. Just to win games by staying in the game. It is more conducive to the tougher schedules we are playing. There were at least two touchdowns left off the scoreboard due to mistakes that cut short drives, if not more. Clean up those mistakes and make a few more plays and things will be different. It is a good sign that coaches and players are all frustrated because they know they have the talent but just didn't put it all together for that game.
