Lady Volleyball 2017-18

gingiOhio State has several excellent players and dominated the first set. They had good discipline and played with the kind of energy that leads to consistently impressive ("lucky") digs and saves rather than token dives and swipes at the ball. No 'campfires.' They were winning the long rallies. BYU turned things around Set 2 and was clearly the dominant team.
There were was enough excellent play and thrilling rallies that it's worth watching the saved game on BYUTV. The commentary was pretty good too.
Positive: We have returning players who were average (but good) last year but are really really good this year. Some of the balls probably had to be aired up again. Sets 2-4 had BYU playing with the energy that Ohio State had in Set 1. The team played well together and we have a very good replacement high-emotion player.
Not yet positive: Didn't get going until Set 2. Ohio State is picked to finish eighth in their conference and was on the road so the Set 1 struggle wasn't expected.
Wierd; Just like last year, BYUTV's cameras seem to zoom in on BYU coaches' computer screens, notes, and spoken directions. They don't do this to opposing teams' coaches. A helper watching our broadcast might be able to assist the opposing team during the game. I'll start marking the times from now on.
The BYU women's volleyball team looks better than (I) expected. Good supportive crowds will take them well into the NCAA tournament.

scott715Ranked #7. Seeded #13 in the tournament. Won the first game last night. Plays Oregon tonight at 7MST on BYUtv. Win and most likely will play #4 Kentucky. They destroyed American last night.
We usually do not get a good seed due to our rpi. I wish we could beef up our OOC schedule. Like play CSU who is usually good. We should sponsor an 8 team tournament with ranked teams early in the season. We did play some good teams but we need more. Only SD was a good conference match up.
