Jake Heaps in All American Bowl

Jake Heaps is looking pretty good in the All American Bowl right now ... the best part, the "BYU" in the eye black under each eye! I love this kid. Also he's made some really good throws.

score is 14-0 at half time. West leads.

Snubbed for the player of the week for the USC RB.

The score was 14-0 before Heaps took his first snap.



He's only about 50%. Did have a nice throw on a deep out on 3rd and 15 for a first down.



Next play was a dropped pass. His down the field ball later in the drive hung up a little bit, but still should have been caught.

Heaps threw lots of fantastic passes, receivers dropped a couple. Apo didn't have any catches, 1 drop and 1 pass tipped away from him, though he still made an athletic play. Heaps is awesome. He led 2 TD drives, both scored by running plays (one fumble into the EZ picked up by the center) nonetheless Heaps is responsible for the longest drives.



Each time Heaps was under center they had delay of games, illegal formations, but I think that's due to having 1 week to prepare. Heaps will be awesome for us

After watching him play a couple of times I will be very surprised if he is not the starter for the first game next year.

The only complaints that I have about Heap are that he fumbled 2 snaps and doesn't have big time arm strength.



He is very mobile in and out of the pocket, has excellent footwork, throws a catchable ball, and is obviously a good leader. Of the 3 times I've seen him, this was the best he looked overall.

I'm not worried about fumbled snaps. It's an all-star game where you've only worked with the center for a handful of practices.



As Max Hall has proven, you can be very effective without a big-time arm.

The lack of a "big time arm" just means he will be playing for BYU for a full 4 years, not bolting to the NonFootballLeague.

I think his arm looked good. He threw a pass about 40 yards on that 3 and 32 and WR almost caught it. This kid looks great, he is so pumped about being a Cougar. Heaps said he wants to represent his faith like Tebow did. The future looks bright to me.

I was at the game, Jake looked fantastic, he was very poised, and yes, the eye-black under his right eye was just awesome. He is so excited to come to BYU, I love that guy, I hope he'll start, he is just perfect for us. His demeanor and the way he carries himself reminds me a lot of Tim Tebow.

To be honest I didn't think Jake looked that good. He missed some open receivers had a lot of penalties and fumbled the snap a few times. His throws didn't have too much zip on them either.



All that means nothing to me though. It was just one game that he only had one week to play with his teamates. The guy is smart, talented, and driven. I believe he will make a HUGE impact on BYU football. He is a born leader and will take our program to new heights.



I kept looking for Apo but didn't find him. Jake seemed to be hooking up with some guy named woods the most.

I thought Heaps came out a bit pumped and made some mistake early. But once he settled down, he looked solid. Good accuracy, good choices, threw some good balls. Arm strength was average like Max, but saw the whole field well. Loved that.
