BYU FINALLY Offers Troy Hinds!

"BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall offered a scholarship to Davis High sophomore Troy Hinds today, according to his father David Hinds. Hinds is a 6-foot-5, 225 pound defensive end who has been clocked at 4.65 in the forty. He also holds an offer from Utah, accor[d]ing to Scout.com. He will be in [t]he class of 2012. As a 2009 sophomore for Davis, Hinds was 15th in tackles in 5A with 96 and had eight sacks. Troy was one of the standouts at the 2009 Phoenix Scout.com Combine, when he participated as a freshman. His sophomore year he helped lead his team to the state championship game. He's also being sent letters by Cal, Oregon, Texas, UCLA, and USC.



I was one of those who was surprised that BYU didn't offer his older brother Tanner, who was the Utah 5A class MVP. Tanner was the state’s second-leading rusher this past season with 1,931 yards and 24 TDs, and was very close to receiving an offer from Utah before committing to Weber State. The fact that he didn't receive an offer from BYU just goes to show how incredibly strong this recruiting class is, especially in the running back department.

Brian Kariya, who also played at Davis High and was a stud workhorse while there, did not get a scholarship offer from BYU out of high school, either. He still walked on. My guess is that BYU gave Tanner the option of walking on, but told him they had no more scholarships to offer him, that maybe he could earn one later.



All the same, will be interesting to see if BYU can land Troy or not. Not worried about Utah, just the big PAC10 schools that have had some luck in Utah recently.

I wonder how much longer kids in Utah are going to want to play for a weaker conference on the coast when they could play in the MWC.

We need BYU fans to start going to the Davis games next season if he is still undecided. I wonder what influence having a section of the fans cheering for you to go to BYU would have on a recruit. It might have the same effect that Quesada had when he met our RB's compared to Utah's where he said he felt more welcome at BYU.

No kidding .... 2 yrs. is a long time to dance! The Div. I courtship will be intense & confusing. An athlete w/ this kind of size & talent will be overwhelmed with offers.

I think we would have to lock him up before the start of his senior season, similar to Heaps. Otherwise he is going to get stars in his eyes by the USC's and Oregon's and we'll lose him to the Pac-10.
