The Defense Department now officially refers to its primary foe in Iraq and Syria as "ISIS," according to a memo the Pentagon issued earlier this month.



"The Defense Department will use the term Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, when referring to this threat," Defense Department Executive Secretary Michael Bruhn wrote in a Feb. 13 memo obtained by U.S. News and sent to each of the military departments and leaders within the Pentagon.

Let's be honest, there were two reasons why the Obama administration used "ISIL". The first was to sound smarter and more enlightened than everyone else. The other was the administration was not fond of Israel and the Levant area encompasses Israel, so it was another way to take a swipe at one of our allies.

If you want to find present day Nazis I'd invite you to tour an Israeli settlement in Hebron. You'll find plenty. Not on the side you think though. Obama had plenty of reasons to take a swipe at one of our "allies" though I think you're reading too much into this.



The Israelis are just a another bunch of moochers, the biggest bunch in the world in fact. Hopefully the Donald follows through with his promise to make them pay for the protection the US provides or at least stops stealing our money to give them $4B per year.

Ahhhhh. Sorry. I missed that point. So, when we helped Britain defeat Hitler in WWII, we determined how much financial aid we would give them based on population - and then we branded Winston Churchill and the Brit's #1 world class moochers. Got it. My bad.

Neither the British, nor the Israelis deserve a dime of our money. Foreign "aid" is the worst kind of government spending. It redistributes wealth from the middle class and poor of our country to the elites of others. The Israelis are moochers. Great big moochers.



The Israelis aren't the good guys here (and neither were the British for that matter). Thanks for the non sequitur though. Here's a better one: the British and the Israelis have attacked the US military during peacetime without provocation.

I think that is a different topic - "deserve" assistance is subjective. During WWII we gave aid to lots of different countries. Not just England, France, Russia and China - which are obvious. We gave aid to Turkey, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Greece, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Peru, Cuba, etc. About 36 countries total.



The reason given for this assistance? Officially, the aid was considered and Act to Promote the Defense of the United States. Whether anyone thinks it has value or actually works is always up to debate.

Actually, I think the biggest waste of government spending was the $387,000 spent on studying Swedish massages on rabbits and the $171,000 spent studying the gambling habits of monkeys. But then again, some folks would disagree.

Let's see if the Donald has it in him to fulfill his campaign promise to make other countries (in this case Israel) pay for the protection the US provides. Not likely I think.

Your perspective that the Israeli's are the biggest moochers in the world is your perspective. You certainly will find shone that agree with you. So what. I disagree. You're an anti-military blog reader, who's never served in the military, you think you're an expert in terrorism and foreign affairs. Yet, you've never held a top secret clearance or received top secret briefings in military or terrorism matters. Interesting. Congrats with your assumptions. First, I'd invite you to check out antiwar.com before you say it's antimilitary. It's mostly a compilation of statistics for those killed in wars throughout the world with links to outside articles. If you have another site you use to compile what's going on in the world please suggest it to the rest of us. Like I've said before I spend a few hours a week following the counsel that we learn about what's going on in the world. I don't think that makes me an expert and I rather question the idea that there are any experts in the field. So rather than hide our ignorance behind a lack of top secret clearances we should each become as informed as possible.



Second, antiwar is pro military. It's too bad we haven't had more folks against the wars our country has started in the past 60 years from the beginning. Tens of thousands of US soldiers dead or maimed who had no reason to be in some foreign land (don't even get started on how many they've killed and injured). I still regularly treat patients with cancer from Vietnam and that is usually the least of their problems.



If by rudeness you mean pointing out you have repeatedly confused the terms subjective and objective I'm certainly not going to concede the point. Israelis take more from the US than any other foreign group. That isn't my perspective, that's just how it is - presented objectively in per capita "aid" given to Israel by the US.



Finally, I think you've mistaken Jews in Israel with Israelis in Hebron (an area C Palestinian controlled territory). I was surprised when the settler representative on the tour said the commandment to kill all of the non-Jews living in Hebron is still active and supported by the Bible. I'm sure we can both point out others who believe in the extermination of people of another faith, but that's certainly aspect of Nazism embodied by the settlers in Hebron. Most Israelis are great people, just like most Syrians and Saudis are. It wasn't you who asked who the Nazi's are in this thread, and neither of us brought it up, but there are terrible people on both sides of what's going on in the Holy Land.
