Post players next year??

Our biggest loss will be Miles next year. He's been somewhat decent this year and James Anderson has somehow regressed from last year. He's looked terrible so far this season. So who plays the 5 next year?? Davies and Chris Collinsworth??

My guess is we will see Davies first and Hartsock sliding down. Anderson for emergencies and I thought we had another big guy.

Not that I know of besides Collinsworth. Collinsworth is bigger than Hartsock so my guess is that Noah stays at the 4. Collinsworth has A LOT of upside and I think having him play the 5 would be more a natural role for him.

I don't remember if it was Wake Forest or UNLV, but Anderson cost us one of our home games last year by losing a key rebound right at the end when we were only down two. If I remember correctly, the turnover resulted in more point for them and we had to foul the rest of the way, which as it usually does, resulted in a loss.



Anderson was terrible until about halfway through the season last year where he had one good game. I don't remember him doing anything that great after that though, so I'm not sure the term "regressed" applies.

I remember that game. It was against WF. WF was at the line in a 1:1 situation if I recall correctly and all we needed was to get the ball, secure it, call time out and get one more basket. The ball practically fell into Anderson's lap and rolled off his leg giving the ball back to WF, upon which they scored and put the game out of reach. Quite frustrating.



He bobbled passes to him last night. I liked that he at least tried to back a player down and put up a shot. In my opinion, he gets too low. He needs to straighten up a bit more, power his way in with his legs and use his height more to his advantage. Passes to him need to be up high so he's catching it high or at least waist level bounce passes, but not side passes down at his knees.



I think it's mostly a confidence thing. He wants to play and has heart, you can see it (I remember seeing an interview of him on KBYU and he mentioned wanting to play in the NBA), but I'm sure he's mostly focusing on not making mistakes, which in turns make you think about making mistakes, resulting in mistakes. He just has to play his game.



That said, I think Davies is a better opp at 5. Anderson can spell Davies. I like Noah where he is and think Noah plays better as a forward. He's real good coming in at the side as the defense collapses on another player. At the 5, he wouldn't really be able to slide in unnoticed so much. Not sure about Collinsworth at the 5. I kind of liked him playing the 4 too.



I don't envy Rose. He has to figure out how to juggle playing time between Davies, Noah and Collinsworth. Unfortunately, all can't be on the court at the same time, though that would be fun to see...

Who knows, Collinsworth may need a redshirt year. I didn't remember him being bigger than Davies or Hartsock, so I'd like to see Davies and Hartsock starting at the 4 and 5 spots. I have never liked Anderson as a player. I have never been impressed. It seems to me that when he gets in, which isn't much, he tries to shoot the ball almost every time he touches it even if he's taking a bad shot.

I'm pretty sure we wont be able to redshirt Collinsworth next year. I really think he'll be needed. I believe Collinsworth was 6'9" before he left on his mission. He may not have the wing span that Davies has but I believe he had decent sized frame to throw around underneath

Collinsworth is a 3-4 and is a great banger but will never play center for us.



but Davies will play next year regardless of mission plans (which thus far he does not have)

and Hartsock is the 4 for this year and the next 2 (I expect that eventually you'll see Hartsock add outside shooting to his repertoire)

Davies will make us forget all about Miles after an off season of preparation and growth. (sometimes we want to forget about Miles now)



Abouo and boths Collinsworths will fight for time at the 3 ( c.collinsworth will spend more time at the 4)



and



Jimmer and Emery will dominate at the 1,2 and Lloyd and little Collinsworth will get major minutes at the 1,2 positions



Jimmer will not go pro after this year; he's not quick enough to play guard in the NBA and Europe will be calling whether he leaves this year or next regardless (what makes Jimmer better than say Wink Adams, who stayed for all 4 and actually won NCAA tourney games and could defend?) Jimmer will make a tremendous European player and I expect eventually a tremendous basketball coach (as would Emery).



Good college players don't neccessarily make good NBA players; and Jimmer is one of those.



Emery will push Jimmer next season for MWC player of the year



Next year is our guaranteed sweet 16 or better run in the NCAAs

5s don't come out of the JUCO ranks for the most part. Most JUCOs have 6'5"-6'8" centers at best



If you looked at every JUCO in the country, I'll be you couldn't find me a dozen 6'9"+ centers that average 15 and 10 (which if they don't at that level aren't D1 material anyhow)



I wouldn't sell James Anderson short, he's very long and plays solid defense. Having spoken with many coaches, it's hard to predict when a 7 footer will finally figure out how to use their body, which is why big men like that are such a crap-shoot, etc. Sometimes they never do, but I see a few things about Anderson that makes me think he can play backup center next season.



Though if we go small, I guarantee you that Hartsock will go to the 5 before Collinsworth. Though I do agree that he wont' be redshirted; especially since it might be his only chance to play with baby bro on the college level.

Remind me...when does Collinsworth (older) get back?

Although the older Collinsworth is 6'9" to 6'10", he actually is better suited for the 2, 3, or 4 position. He plays like a wing, not a post player.

Wow, it HAS been two years now...

Give him 30 minutes a game once he's back into shape and he could be averaging double-digit rebounds!

Collinsworth the elder both figuratively and actually,really impressed me his first campaign.he had a gritty nose for the ball,and seemed a bit rangier and athletic than Noah.I think both are very strong players at the 4,and Collinsworth prob gets some reps at the three,in fact if Charles doesn't develop a little more quickly this year to next I could see him loosing some of his 3 minutes to both Collinsworth boys.I think Craig is spot -on re his unlikeliness to get signif. mins at the 5.I remember Collinsworth also being much more poised than the average freshman,something Abouo hasn't yet shown a lot of,regrettably.Abouo still has time to become a superstar in that body.
