Oregon DL Wayne Kirby wants to transfer to BYU?

He was a 2016 recruit who chose Oregon over Washington State, BYU and Utah. Now with Helfrich gone, sounds like he wants to come over. He would have to sit out for a year after playing in 9 games for Oregon as a freshman. He is a 3* 6' 3" 315 lb DT out of Pocatello, ID.

Kirby has been granted permission to speak with BYU about a transfer. :)

Doesn't he still need a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately or will he be sitting out 2017?

After playing in 9 games, I don't see the "waiver" being granted. We'll see - miracles do happen. Keep hope alive!

The waiver is a hardship request due to his father passing away. They have done them for similar type situations. He has a shot at it.

“There was some stuff going on throughout the team that made it kind of a bad environment for me,” Kirby said. “It made it seem like (certain players) didn’t really care about winning and they were just there for the gear. They loved being a ‘Duck player.’ I have goals ... and felt like transferring to a place like BYU would probably be best for me if I want to reach those goals.”



"Kirby said his roommates, who he did not name but said were teammates on the football team, partied and smoked marijuana regularly. Kirby said because of his choice to abstain from the party scene, he felt he was unable to do much at home besides watch Netflix in his bedroom."



"Kirby also said a desire to be closer to Pocatello swayed his decision. He asked recently hired Oregon head coach Willie Taggart for permission to speak with BYU and Utah, but Taggart declined to let Kirby contact Utah because the Utes are Oregon’s Pac-12 counterparts."

Kirby is close to BYU recruits Alden Tofa and former Highland teammate Tommy Togiai. He feels BYU has a solid chance at landing these two highly talented defensive line prospects.

I'm curious if he made that post partly in response to Togiai releasing his top 8 which did not include BYU.
