The goals for BYU are:



1. To achieve the highest ranking possible

2. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl team possible

3. To win as many games as possible

4. To be better than Utah



If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:



A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.



BYU (4-4) over Cincinnati (4-4)



B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah



Goooo Bye Week!



C. Hold your nose and cheer for the MWC in nonconference play. Also cheer for the better team in conference matchups. Root for Boise to go to Vegas. The stronger the conference the stronger our bowl opponent will be.



Wyoming (6-2) over Utah St. (3-5)

Boise State (7-1) over San Jose State (3-6)

Air Force (5-3) over Army (5-3)

SDSU (7-1) over Hawaii (4-5)

Colorado St. (4-4) over Fresno St. (1-8)

New Mexico (5-3) over Nevada (3-5)



D. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS which helps our overall ranking.



Arizona (2-6) over Washington State (6-2)

UCLA (3-5) over Colorado (6-2)

Toledo (7-2) beat Akron (5-5)

Michigan State (2-6) over Illinois (2-6)

Mississippi State (3-5) over Texas A&M (7-1)

Southern Utah (4-4) over Montana State (2-6)

UMass (2-7) over Troy (6-1)



E. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked ahead of BYU cheer for the higher ranked (Of course rules A-D trump rule E).



#1 Alabama over #13 LSU

Syracuse over #2 Clemson

Maryland over #3 Michigan

Cal over #5 Washington

#6 Ohio St. over #10 Nebraska

Boston College over #7 Louisville

Northwestern over #8 Wisconsin

Vanderbilt over #9 Auburn

Arkansas over #11 Florida

Iowa over #12 Penn St.

Iowa St. over #14 Oklahoma

TCU over #17 Baylor

Duke over #19 Virginia Tech

Kansas over #20 West Virginia

Georgia Tech over #21 North Carolina

F. Root for the Big 12 to be turned upside down (Unless it violates rules A-E)

G. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. The more connected a team is to our opponents the more you should cheer for them (unless it violates rules A-F). For example, Oregon St. is the most connected team to our opponents as they play 4 games against them (UCLA, Arizona, Utah, Boise St.). The number by the team indicates how connected they are. If the numbers are equal take the team who has lost or will most likely lose to our opponents.

East Carolina over Tulsa

Florida International over Western Kentucky

H. Cheer for the FCS team over the FBS team. Because it is fun (unless it violates rules A-G)

Charlotte vs. Southern Miss

Florida Atlantic vs. Rice

UTSA vs. Middle Tennesee

I tend to agree with you on this, but on this one. I think I'd rather have a bowl-eligible USU when we beat them than have then not be. I'm an Aggie fan for the next three weeks. (just to help our strength of schedule)

At the end of the day there isn't much difference between a 5 win USU team or a 6 win USU team. However, there is a decent chance that we play Wyoming in the bowl game. Wyoming could be 10-3 or 11-2 and nationally ranked when if we play them in the bowl.



I'd rather play a double digit win team in a bowl game than beating a 6 win USU team.

This is a tough one, USU is on the schedule. Wy might be in the bowl. My dad went to USU so I'll root for the Aggies.
