Spiff's Spots of Observation and Other Statistical Nonsense

I know it's late, but here are my observations from the Boise loss.

• BYU has scored just 13 offensive points in the 1st half of the last three games. The Defense has scored 14.


• The Boise game is now the only game of the season in which the offense failed to find the end zone in the 4th quarter.


• Boise also won the Passing Efficiency Rating (PER) battle. PER is now 7-1 (.875) on the season and 43-7 (.883) the last five years.


• The Broncos had 7 plays of 20 or more yards - the most by a BYU opponent this year.


• Opponents have also converted on 8 of the last 16 attempts (.500) on 3rd down and 7 or longer to go.


• BYU had 109 yards off interceptions and fumble recoveries. That's the most yards since the Cougars gained 99 such yards against San Diego St in 2001.


• After gaining 1,107 yards against West Virginia and Toledo, BYU has gained 1,031 the last three games (Michigan St, Miss St, Boise St).


• BYU opponents have not scored following a Cougar turnover since the WVU game.


• BYU has 9 TD passes in the first 8 games. That's the fewest TD passes in the first 8 games since the Cougars had just 4 in the first 8 games in 2010.


• BYU fell to 18-17 (.514) against teams in a blue helmet since 1989. Cincinnati will likely wear a black helmet with BYU's record being 7-1 (.778)
