BYU basketball: WCC championship or NCAA tournament run

Which of these would you prefer this season if you could only pick one or the other?

It's time for a WCC banner to be hung in the Marriott Center. 3 wins in the NCAA tourney and I change my vote. But a first 4 and a first round win is not better (in my mind) than a WCC championship.

The problem we're having since moving to the WCC is that our team hasn't been as good and Gonzaga is way better than any other MWC team ever was when we were in it. But fans tend to see all conference championships as the same, even across conferences.

I'm embarrassed by the fact that BYU has never been truly competitive in the WCC.

Agreed. Gonzaga is a legit program that will be strong for years to come. BYU possibly is getting the horses to stop a team like Gonzaga which may mean winning a WCC championship AND winning a couple games in the postseason.



What I want most is to be regular season champ in WCC... soon. I don't know if this poll is about regular season or league tournament. Regular season is a bigger deal to me because I think it shows overall team strength, not a flash in the pan moment for the final game.

Win the WCC and we would quite likely win at least two games in the NCAA, seeding and all.

I agree. the top of the WCC is going to be very good this year. 3 NCAA tournament teams.

I think I agree with you, but I hadn't thought about First 4. I assumed two tournament wins meant Sweet 16, which I would take over a WCC championship.

As much as I want a WCC championship, I would still take a Sweet 16 run. Better national recognition and better for recruiting. BYU hasn't had many Sweet 16 runs in it's history.

Does play in game win count? Because not winning the WCC probably means being in a play in tourney game.

So 2 tournament wins to me means winning the play in game and then winning the round of 64 game and losing in the round of 32.

I actually was thinking of the sweet 16, but either way I would have voted the same. Conference championships are nice, but the NCAA tournament is what really matters to me.

I'm sure that I overthought this (which would actually be a first) But I had two realistic scenarios of A) BYU (no conference championship) wins a "First 4" and then wins in the round of 64, and loses in the round of 32...

Or

BYU (Conference championship) looses in the round of 64. Our season ends on the same week (but two days earlier) We've already got a First four win, and a round of 64 win. I'd like a WCC conference championship (either regular season or tourney. My vote is the same either way)

Dang! Diet coke just spewed out the nose!

I have to vote for Tourney wins. Although they have won one here and there, they are generally a one and done year after year. That is the bigger monkey on their back at this point, and they need to get it off. Losing another conference championship to Saint Zagga is not as big a deal as losing another first round game to another who's not who of NCAA basketball
