A while back I suggested that while the Mtn is trying to upgrade its equipment to 3D capable trucks etc so as to make their equipment future proof and get into that market as an early adopter to up viewership based on novelty.

Looks like ESPN is way ahead, starting with 3D broadcasts this World Cup:

I heard about this on the radio today. Killer. I'd love to see the World Cup final in 3D... no matter who the teams are.

I think doing the World Cup is a brilliant move for a network that is trying to become a global force, especially if they get it in 3D before anyone else.

I can't wait to see the World Cup in LIVE 3D in 2018 or 2022. There's no way FIFA doesn't bring it back to America. I could see the States becoming like Europe where the tourney won't be away too many times in a row. I bet we get it once every 20 years or so. That would mean I've got a good two or three more WCs here in teh States.

What might be even BIGGER 3D news---at CES today, Toshiba unveiled a tv that converts at 2D signal into 3D in real-time! Everything you watch can be in 3D.

Better news? The TV hits the American market this Fall!

I really wonder how all this new 3d technology will work with people who are severely limited in vision in one eye.

It won't.

My right eye is pretty bad, so I am severely left eye dominant. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to adjust to the 3D, and then I can only watch for about 2.5 or 3 hours before I start to get a headache.

You'll have to try a 3D movie in a theater or test drive a TV at RC Willey when they come out to see how it works with you. I'd recomment trying a movie though---like I said, it takes me a bit of time to adjust, and I don't think the high-pressure sales staff at RC Willey will be patient enough to let you watch a whole movie to see how it works.

It would probably be great for the Network Battle of the T's and A's.

(Sorry, bad joke from early SNL days.)

When I was about 10 I saw Captain E-O at Disney World in 3d. More like Captain Lame-O. Just can't imagine 3d has improved enough to make me pay real money to see it again.

Ya, for them, they will have to watch it in 2D.
