Taysom is way off. He's throwing high, to wrong shoulders, waiting too long into the play until the defense catches back up to the receivers routes, behind people.. it's really bad. If taysom throws outside shoulder on that throw Juergens got laid out on its a touchdown... Instead he throws inside shoulder and makes Juergens stop breaking to the outside and come towards center, where he promptly gets laid out by the safety. In the "good throw dropped" vs "bad throw not caught" debate, I think you'll find a lot of bad throws not caught. Nate Meikle (former BYU WR standout) agrees.
Exactly--at this level, it's not just about hitting receivers, but it's about hitting the receivers where they can safely catch the ball. Subtle things like outside versus inside shoulder, shoulder high versus waist high versus knee high make a huge difference. When a QB leaves receivers open to big hits too many times, the receivers become focused on trying to protect themselves from big hits, and that's when things like drops, alligator arms, and broken off routes start to occur.
Did the receivers drop too many passes? Definitely. Did Taysom contribute to those drops with inaccurate throw? Definitely. Both issues need to be fixed.
