Congrats BSU fans. I underestimated your team again. Time for me to eat some crow

TCU was outplayed by a better team tonight. #1 WAC was better than the unanimous #1 MWC tonight.

I hate black feathers...yech....

and I still don't want you in my conference.

was FSU 'better' than BYU?

Was BYU 'better' than OU?

I hate...repeat HATE BSU....I would have liked to see no one get pounded on more but now we'll never hear the end of it...

but you have to admit BSU had the sustained drives and got the takeaways. They had more rushing yards and dominated Time of possession. They got the hard hits and the sacks. Not sure what else you want from a winning team. oh yeah...and the points. they got those too even after a missed FG.

Nothing like a little black bird for dinner with some humble pie for dessert. Peterson can do amazing things when he has time on his hands. I think this is why BSU had some struggles week to week but has performed outstandingly against great opponents in bowl games.

TCU was just happy to be there and it showed.

You cant really eat crow and make excuses at the same time can you???

TCU losing to BSU must really sting. I mean really really sting.

I'm not an MWC fan. I'm a BYU fan. BSU's victory bothered me so little that I was actually pulling for the Broncos tonight

Here's why I am eating crow: While I said never under estimate Peterson when he has time--I still did....BSU coached around Hughes....He really did not dominate the freshman he was up against. Furthermore, BSU used a defensive scheme during the game NOT PLAYED DURING THE SEASON...BSU used 6 defensive backs to counter some of the speed TCU has. TCU could not prepare for it because they had not seen it...and even with the extra DB they still stuffed TCU's run game. How can that be? Peterson and his DC Wilcox outcoached Mr. coach of the year Patterson. I also thought Dalton and his receivers would do better than Moore and his receivers sans Pettis. Big error. Dalton looked like a deer in the headlights. TCU's receivers cut off routes, dropped TD passes etc. Sophmore Moore, while he missed on some passes that would have put BSU up even more, did not make a mistake and led the team on two long sustained drives. I thought TCU's line play on both sides of the ball would be superior to BSU's play. Big error. BSU won that battle too. So now I get to endure another year of gloating. ugh...But BSU was the better team and is an elite team. And the scary part is that they return 23 starters next year. No reason they cannot be in the NC game next year...They play at Virginia Tech and host Oregon State....two tough games...but it is time to quit under estimating them and letting them play with a chip on their shoulder and an underdog....

I noticed that too, It seems that every time the running back went into a pattern he chipped Hughes on the way out of the backfield. I didn't notice us doing that as much as BSU did and I was jealous.

I believe on the other sight I had ranked Peterson ahead of Paterson, but both as my top 1 and 2 coaches in the non-BCS arena. After last night I'm inclined to lengthen the distance between the 2 and have Bronco and patterson tied as #2

It was a good game. Boise St.'s Defense WAS impressive. A great win against a solid team. My dilemma - if it is a dilemma - I really don't care about either team. I just enjoyed the play making & great effort of all the players. From what I saw - the more dominant team won. BSU defense really brought it last night!!!!

I'm from Boise. Talk about conflicted: my loyalty to BYU is about 3x stronger than my loyalty to BSU, so for most of the bowl season I found myself rooting against my family's team (and the team who ranks an easy #2 for "games I've personally attended") for a Texas school that I've never attended or visited, never interacted with students or alumni, and never particularly liked aside from an admiration of how well their team plays. While home for the holidays, I caught a recap of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, and it rekindled my BSU loyalties. I still thought TCU was going to blow them out of the water, though.

I have no problem saying I was wrong. I'm hating the media reaction to this game, and it was specifically this that I feared when the Fiesta Bowl matchup was announced. Yes, the game was boring to watch. Defensive games often are. What frustrates me is that if two BCS teams meet in a BCS bowl game, and the game is boring, the commentators will point it out but will largely move on from there. (There are exceptions, of course; last year I remember a few pundits saying Texas's unconvincing bowl win was probably not enough for them to claim a "not fair" for title contention). Here, it seems some people (based on tweets I've read and Gene W's ESPN article today) are using this game to de-legitimize both programs, which just makes me sick. It bothers me for numerous reasons.

First, it pisses me off once again for the MWC having so little media exposure because if more people were familiar with the TCU of the regular season, I don't think anyone would DARE dismiss them as untested hype.

Second, it's such a catch-22, pitting the two teams together. Watch, you can spin ANY result into "both teams suck!":

Close, low-scoring defensive game: "Teams that can't move the ball, miss cues and turn the ball over don't deserve a shot at the title."

Close, high-scoring offensive game: "Typical mid-major teams: all offense; couldn't stop a high school JV team. Defense wins championships."

Dominant TCU or BSU victory: "Considering how untested these two teams were, can such a victory really be used as a barometer for how strong the winner was?"

And that's why I think a lot of us are frustrated here, even me with my Boise ties. The strongest exception to any of those arguments listed above would have been a TCU blowout. They were already ranked hight, they blew out pretty much everyone except Air Force and Clemson, and perhaps most importantly, the MWC seemed to be strong enough this year to refute claims of "Untested!" Instead, BSU wins, and the MWC followers cry "Fluke!" and "Choke!" while everyone else seems to yawn. I'm glad BSU won, and while I think TCU stumbled a bit I don't think they choked enough to invalidate the notion that BSU is good enough to play with the best. But as the reaction to the game shows, it didn't help the cause of the non-AQs. (Strongest reason I want BSU in the MWC: I'm tired of waiting till the last game of the year to find out if BSU is any good.)

The better team (and the better coach) won.

And the better fanbase filled the stands.

In a lot of ways BSU and TCU are exact opposites. TCU is a small private school from a huge metroplex overshadowed by 3 other big schools (OU, UT, aTm) and by tons of other things to do. BSU is basically the only thing going on in small market Boise. I am always impressed with the support that BSU fans bring, but I my only personal interactions w/ BSU fans have turned me off from them completely. Other than Mars, I have NEVER met a BSU fan that wasn't obnoxious.

And as for this "BSU" is the new "BYU" garbage-as soon as they utilize the honor code and don't practice on Sundays-then I'll be prepared to concede that point.

Better coach won? Absolutely

Better fanbase? They both suck

Filled the stands? Yes. It looked like the opening day of the deer hunt with all that orange in the stadium.

Your own opinion that I feel is based purely on hatred of BSU is really making you look bad.

BSU was/is the better team.

BSU probably has the biggets/best non-AQ fanbase outside of BYU - they travelled 40k to Phoenix.

BSU more than likely has the best coaching staff in the country

If all of us judged fanbases off of the most obnoxious and annoying few, then you would be the poster child for why other fanbases despise BYU.

Your last thought of BSU not being able to match the accomplishments of BYU until they are righteous enough says enough about you to discount everything you say. I dont think BSU is really aspiring to be BYU. They have established themselves and moved beyond the comparisons without the self righteous attitude.

Not to add to the fire, but FWIW, I don't think he was saying BSU isn't righteous enough. I think he was saying BYU accomplished more despite having having those additional obstacles to overcome.

Don't get me wrong, he's still marginalizing BSU's accomplishments when compared to BYU, but it wasn't a holier than thou statement. It was a 'we did better with a tougher row to hoe' statement. I tend to agree with that, but comparing two eras 20+ years apart is about as opinion based as it gets.

I don't know, I can be pretty obnoxious... 8)

Agree to disagree on the rest. I think a lot of BYU fans attempt to marginalize Boise State because they are jealous. Yes, BSU has had a much better football program than us this decade, including this year, last year, 2006, the two years they beat us, and probably most of the rest of the seasons as well. Yes, they seem to have better coaches and coordinators than us, who get better play out of worse players. Yes, even their fans seem more rabid than ours (they are a smaller fanbase but buy more merchandise, for example). Yes, they can actually beat TCU. I get the "little brother" reaction that many Cougars have towards the two-time BCS-winning Broncos... I just don't condone it. We should all want to rise to their level, not attempt to put them down to feel like we can drag them down towards our own.
