I saw the usual unofficial jabber about the B12 cutting down to some finalists. As has been the norm, I gave it no real validity, until I subsequently scanned the ESPN website. There on the front page was the quote from the East Carolina AD officially stating that they had received notice from the B12 that they were out of the running. So the B12 has "officially" paired down their list and that is no longer speculation.



Then I went to myStatesman.com to see if there was any other school actually admitting they were notified and see if there was more of an official list. I came across this article there.

I know I started this thread just to link the article, but reading around this morning I found it interesting that the University of Houston FB coach got an interoffice memo back in November that states:



"According to an interoffice memo sent from Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek to [Coach Tom] Herman on Nov. 30, Herman would receive a $5 million bonus—payable over two years—if Houston joins "a conference with television of $20 million or more per member." The Big 12 fits that description. Should none of those super premium jobs open and Houston win a golden ticket into the Power 5, that extra $2.5 million a year combined with his $3 million salary would pay Herman what many of the best Power 5 coaches make. The memo also promises that upon entry to such a conference, the school would immediately renegotiate a contract that would put Herman's compensation among the top half of the league's head coaches."

I would imagine that the incentive is based totally on the schools attempt to keep Herman and let them know what hoops they will jump through, "real" or "imagined" to keep him. That would be quite a hefty bonus.

I think that is a great move on their part to increase their chances of getting in.
