Should schools be allowed to pay for the insurance premiums for these injury insurance policies? Is it common for the school to do that? Doesn't seem quite right to me...

SharperIt's replacing something the player has to lose by agreeing to play (and risk injury) at the school.
I think it makes sense, similar to paying for medical care for injuries while playing. Sort of the equivalent of a worker's compensation insurance plan, but adjusted for the realities of players who legitimately would play professional sports in the future.

HoosierCougarIt is a long-held practice. The :utard: did is for Van Horn when he came back for his senior season. if you have a #1 caliber draft pick who comes back, it's not unreasonable to say there's benefit to both by the school paying premiums for 4-6 months against a career ending injury or draft-drop injury.
